Delta Downs Jackpot Betting – Exaggerator Rises Up The List Of Two-Year-Olds

Posted by on 11/20/2015 7:57:11 PM

The Grade-3 Delta Downs Jackpot is open to two-year-old thoroughbreds and it is held at Delta Downs in Louisiana. It is raced over 1 1/16 miles on dirt, and it carries a purse of $1,000,000. When it comes to two-year-olds, the only purse that is bigger is the Breeders' Cup Juvenile.

While you might not know many of these horses, there are a few that have been sired by winners. However, go with the horse that has the most track experience and that would be Exaggerator.

What: Horse Betting

When: Saturday, November 21st, 5:15 PM ET

Where: Delta Downs, Vinton, LA

Pick: Exaggerator

Cowboy Classic is making his debut on Saturday, so it'll be the first time that most get a look at this gelding. He was sired by High Cotton, whose best finish came in the Grade-1 Travers in 2006, where he finished fifth.

Exaggerator might be the favorite for this race as he finished fourth at the Breeders' Cup Juvenile. He broke his maiden on his second try and then won the Grade-2 Saratoga Special in August, then finished second at the Grade-1 Breeders Futurity in October. He was also sired by Curlin' the 2007 winner of the Preakness and the Breeders' Cup Classic, along with the Grade-1 Dubai World Cup and was the 2007 Champion Three-Year-Old Male Horse.

Forevamo hasn't broken his maiden in two tries, but he won the non-graded- Jean Lafitte in October. He has never run more than a mile, so keep a close eye on how he does down the stretch. If he handles that, this will be another horse to watch going into his three-year-old campaign.

Found Money is another horse that hasn't run over a mile; in fact, his longest run was seven furlongs in which he finished second at the non-graded Golden State Juvenile. He won the non-graded Santa Anita Juvenile in June, and he has finished in the money in three of four starts now. He also finished fifth at the Grade-2 Best Pal Stakes in August.

Harlan Punch came in second behind Forevamo in the Jean Lafitte in what was his debut, which is a very good start to his career. A win in this race would put this colt on the watch list for 2016, and he was sired by Harlan's Holiday, who has an excellent track record in graded-stakes and Triple Crown events.

Iron Dome is making his competitive debut this weekend, and he was sired by Silver Tree, who won the Grade-3 Oceanport in 2008. He also finished a decent fifth at the Breeders' Cup Mile in 2004.

Memories Of Winter joins the list of horses making their two-year-old debuts on Saturday in Louisiana. However, he was sired by Hard Spun, who has a top-class resume, as he finished second, third and fourth at the Triple Crown races in 2007. He also finished second at the Grade-1 Haskell Invitational, he won the Grade-1 King's Bishop and the Grade-2 Kentucky Cup Classic that year as well and finished by coming in second to Curlin' at the Breeders' Cup Classic.

Sunny Ridge has finished in the money in three of his four starts, winning a maiden/claiming race on his first try. He also finished seventh at the Grade-3 Sanford in July, then he won the non-graded Sapling in September and finished second at the Grade-1 Champagne in October. He has never run more than a mile, so this is a big test for Sunny Ridge.

Texas Jambalaya ran third at the Jean Lafitte in his debut, so he is off to a solid start. He was sired by Notional, which finished second at the Grade-1 Florida Derby in 2007 and won the Grade-2 Salvatore Mile in 2008. He was more of a sprinting horse, and that might be similar to how Texas Jambalaya runs on Saturday.

Whitmore rounds out the field as another horse making his debut, but he has a great sire. Pleasantly Perfect won the Breeders' Cup Classic in 2003 and finished third in 2004. He also won the Grade-1 Pacific Classic and the Dubai World Cup in 2004 as well. His damsire is Affirmed, which won the 1978 Triple Crown, and he is a son of Pleasant Colony, which won the Kentucky Derby and the Preakness Stakes in 1981.

How It Will Play Out

There are a few horses with great genes in this race, but the pick here is the horse we have seen the most of. Exaggerator should win the Delta Downs Jackpot.
