Fountain of Youth Stakes Betting Tips – He’s Had Enough Takes The Plaudits At Churchill Downs

Posted by Marco Sussman on 2/21/2013 6:30:57 PM

Online betting players are still following the Kentucky Derby prep trail, and the Grade-2 Fountain of Youth Stakes at Gulfstream Park is the final race before the Florida Derby. In this 1 1/16-mile race that is run on dirt, He’s Had Enough to surge to the front.

What: Horse Betting
When: Saturday, February 23rd, post time TBA
Where: Gulfstream Park, Hallandale Beach, FL
Pick: He’s Had Enough

Cerro is one of the lowest-rated horses in the field at the Fountain of Youth Stakes, and he finally won an allowance race at Gulfstream Park on his third attempt. This will be his second start in a graded-stakes race, but the first didn’t go so well as Cerro finished sixth in the Grade-3 Pilgrim at Belmont Park in October. This is a huge race for this three-year-old colt, which is trained by H. Graham Motion.

Elmutahid is another horse with low ratings, and it took this colt five tries over three racetracks to win his maiden, which he did last month at Gulfstream Park, so this may be a good place for him to try his luck in a graded-stakes event. Kiaran McLaughlin won this race in 2010 with Soldat in 2011, so he knows what it takes, but does he have the horse to do it on Saturday?

Falling Sky has three wins in four starts, including a victory in the Grade-3 Sam F. Davis earlier this month. This will be a step up in competition for this John P. Terranova II-trained colt, and even though there are no races lined up for him after Saturday, a solid performance will definitely earn Falling Sky another start.

Many horse betting sharps would probably say that He’s Had Enough is the best horse in this field, and he is coming off a third-place run in the Grade-2 Robert B. Lewis Stakes at Santa Anita in early February. This colt is unpredictable and you never know what you’re going to get with him, but Doug O’Neill wants him in the Kentucky Derby after choosing to run He’s Had Enough in this race instead of the Grade-2 Risen Star Stakes.

Joshua’s Compromise has finished fourth in his last two starts, most recently in the Grade-3 Holy Bull Stakes at Gulfstream Park in January, and this will be his 16th start since May, so you have to wonder if fatigue will be a factor. Barry Rose needs a good showing out of this colt, which has a lot of experience, but this is just his second graded-stakes start.

Majestic Hussar, trained by Eddie Kenneally, also has eyes on the Kentucky Derby, but he finished seventh in his lone graded-stakes race (the Grade-2 Hopeful Stakes back in September) and has never run longer than a seven-furlong race. If he is going to make it to Churchill Downs, Majestic Hussar has to perform on a larger stage than a maiden or allowance race.

Orb has never started a graded-stakes race as he needed four tries to break his maiden, but he did win an allowance race at Gulfstream Park last month. Claude McGaughey III thinks this colt has a lot of potential, but this is a step up and it remains to be seen how he’ll handle the competition.  Of all the horses that haven’t been on a stage like this, Orb may be the one for horse betting players to watch.

Sky Captain finished fourth in an allowance race at Gulfstream Park in January and is another horse that will make their graded-stakes debut, and Mark Casse has a couple of potential races lined up for him if he performs well on Saturday. He did break his maiden at Churchill Downs, but Sky Captain has to take the next step on the Derby trail if he wants to get back to Kentucky in May.

Speak Logistics bounced back from a seventh-place run in the Grade-1 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile to finish fourth in his first start of 2013, the Grade-3 Sam F. Davis, and while that doesn’t seem that great, it’s a start for this colt. At least he has graded-stakes experience and that could bode well on Saturday.

Sr. Quisqueyano was disappointing in his last outing, an eighth-place run in the Grade-3 Holy Bull after two wins and four runners-up in one allowance race and five non-graded races. The Holy Bull brought this colt’s momentum to a screeching halt, and Luis Olivares would like to get that back on track this weekend.

Finally, Violence is one of Todd Pletcher’s horses, and Pletcher has won this race twice (2007 with Scat Daddy and 2010 with Eskendereya). This colt will also get a shout for “best horse in the field” after remaining undefeated in three starts following a victory in the Grade-1 CashCall Futurity in December. Can he do it again?
