Fourstardave Handicap Betting – Wise Dan Rolls To Yet Another Victory

Posted by on 8/7/2013 7:35:42 PM

Sports betting players are used to seeing dominance, and on the horse-racing track, there are few more dominant right now than Wise Dan. He will be going for his second consecutive win in the Grade-2 Fourstardave Handicap at Saratoga, one week after the track celebrated its 150th birthday, and over a mile on turf, it is going to be tough for any thoroughbred to beat Wise Dan to the finish line.

What: Horse Betting
When: Saturday, August 10th, post time TBA
Where: Saratoga Race Course, Saratoga Springs, NY
Pick: Wise Dan

Data Link (probable) returned from an injury that kept him off the track for almost three months, and finished a respectable fourth in the Grade-3 Poker. In his last start of 2012, this five-year-old won the Grade-2 Citation Handicap at Hollywood Park, so he knows how to handle these races and the Citation was 1 1/16 miles, so the distance of a mile shouldn’t be anything to bother Data Link.

King Kreesa (probable) was the winner of the aforementioned Poker, and it was his second straight victory after taking the ungraded Kingston in June. Only three of King Kreesa’s 11 starts have come in graded-stakes events, but he has fared extremely well, winning the Poker, coming in second in the Grade-1 Jamaica Handicap last October and third in the Grade-3 Fort Marcy Stakes in May. When it comes to stepping up to the competition, this four-year-old gelding usually rises to the occasion.

Lea (probable) hasn’t finished lower than third in seven career starts, and three of those have been graded-stakes races: a third in the Grade-3 Hawthorne Derby last October, a win in the Grade-3 Commonwealth Turf Stakes a month later and then a second in his last start, the Grade-2 Firecracker Handicap in June. Lea is relatively green for a four-year-old colt, but the speed is there and some horse betting sharps may think that is a good thing as he should have plenty of gas in the tank for a one-mile turf race.

Mr. Commons (probable), on the other hand, has 20 career starts under his saddle and five wins, with two in graded-stakes races (the Grade-2 Sir Beaufort Stakes in December 2011, and the Grade-2 Arcadia Stakes in his following start). However, he hasn’t won in 10 starts and even though he is usually right there in the mix, he can’t seem to pull off victories. He is coming off a disappointing fifth-place result in an allowance race at Saratoga, but he also finished third behind Wise Dan and Data Link in the Grade-1 Maker’s 46 Mile at Keeneland in April, which was his last start before the allowance race. This could be a very important race for this five-year-old colt.

Skyring (probable) finished fourth in the Maker’s 46 Mile, but then won the Grade-2 Dixie Stakes and horse betting hopes were high. Then he stumbled to a sixth in the Grade-1 United Nations, and now there are many who don’t know what to think about him. He has 21 starts as a four-year-old colt with four wins, but just one has been a graded-stakes race and even though the Dixie showed a lot of potential, he simply has to be more consistent before you can put a lot of stock in Skyring.

Wise Dan (probable) is only a massive roll as his victory in the Firecracker Handicap was his seventh in a row….that’s right, seventh in a row (all on turf). He has won 12 of his last 14 starts, including last year’s Fourstardave Handicap and overall, he has won 16 of 23 career starts. That is nothing to sneeze at and you would have to think that he is the horse betting favorite going into Saturday’s race. The goal is to have this six-year-old gelding defend his Breeders’ Cup Mile crown, but first, he has to get to the Cup unscathed and he should earn some Horse of the Year consideration.

Za Approval (possible) has a win in his lone start at Saratoga, an allowance race in September 2011, and after four wins in allowance and/or maiden races, he was given a chance in a graded-stakes event. This five-year-old gelding finished fourth in the Grade-3 Canadian Turf Stakes in February, then he won the Grade-3 Red Bank in May and in his last start, Za Approval came in the Grade-1 Shoemaker Mile. This is a horse with a ton of talent and horse betting players should keep an eye on him.

How It Will Play Out

How can you bet against Wise Dan, given his track record? Za Approval should get a look, but Wise Dan is the smart online betting choice on Saturday.
