On Deck

Posted by on 3/24/2014 9:26:13 PM

As the 9 innings of the Triple Crown Trail unfold, this week’s on deck action including several important preps for online sports betting site players to scrutinize.

The Florida Derby at Gulfstream Park, the UAE Derby at Meydan in Dubai and the Louisiana Derby all will be run Saturday with the winner earning 100 points toward eligibility to the Kentucky Derby.

A total of 40, 20 and 10 points will be awarded to the 2nd, 3rd and 4th finishers in these races and an all of the final preps except the Lexington, which will be run just a couple of weeks before the Derby.

The American races next Saturday will be run at 9 furlongs on dirt and the UAE Derby goes at a mile and 3 sixteenths on the synthetic.

Cairo Prince will likely head the contenders for the Florida Derby. He was solid in the Holy Bull and could very well be the best contender on the East Coast.

General a Rod fires every time. He ran his eyeballs out in defeat in the Fountain of Youth but that was a speed-biased surface.

We’ll get a better handle on Social Inclusion in the Florida Derby. The runner has a tremendous amount of talent as he showed when beating Honor Code but lacks a ton of experience.

Wildcat Red wants to beat ya but as the distances increase, he could be vulnerable.

Intense Holiday did not take a day off in his last race in the Risen Star. He won by a nose and showed he knows how to find the wire. This Todd Pletcher trainee will be cleverly placed in the Louisiana Derby. His trainer has had to be patient with this runner as he has always trained well and is now figuring it out.

Albano just gave Intense Holiday all he could handle when an unlucky second in the Risen Star. He gets some class from the bottom side as his dam won several stakes and earned nearly $350,000 and the dam also dropped Grade 2 nine-furlong Peter Pan winner and over $650,000 player Mark Valeski.

If anybody from the UAE Derby comes over for the first Saturday in May it will likely be a runner from the Aidan O’Brien stable. His student Giovanni Boldini is bred for dirt. He has never run a bad race. He won his debut, ran decent when third in his first try vs. winners and he won going 7 furlongs for his second victory. Sent to Santa Anita for the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf, he stalked in that mile race but second for second when earning a 92 Beyer.

Oklahoma City graduated by 13 in his second start for O’Brien. He ran second in a Group 2 last September and then beat 16 rivals winning a turf sprint at Newmarket.

O’Brien could also be saddling Michaelmas in the UAE. This runner has never run a poor race, has never been worst than second and he is out of a dam that won the Grade 1 Ashland and earned nearly $600,000.

Things are getting serious now and online sports betting site players need to stay sharp.
