Jim Dandy Stakes Betting – Mylute Outruns The Field At Saratoga

Posted by on 7/25/2013 7:48:48 PM

Sports betting players should get ready for a wild ride on Saturday in Saratoga Springs, where the Grade-2 Jim Dandy Stakes will be held. This 1 1/8-mile race on dirt has a very good field, including a few horses from the Belmont Stakes, led by the winner of that race. However, he’ll come up short as another Belmont contender steals the show.

What: Horse Betting
When: Saturday, July 27th, post time TBA
Where: Saratoga Race Course, Saratoga Springs, NY
Pick: Mylute

(Status in parentheses as of Wednesday, July 24th)

Code West (possible) followed up an allowance-race win in May with a victory in the Grade-3 Matt Winn, but in this race, he may be punching higher than his weight class. It took Code West eight races to pick up his first win in that allowance race, and while he won a Grade-3 race, he also finished sixth in the Grade-2 Louisiana Derby against a strong field, and this Grade-2 field is probably stronger. This three-year-old colt will have some work to do.

Freedom Child (possible) hasn’t raced since the Belmont Stakes, in which he finished a disappointing 13th, but many horse betting players didn’t think he had much of a chance anyway.  He also finished 10th in the Wood Memorial in April, but a month later, he won the Grade-2 Peter Pan Stakes, so you don’t know which Freedom Child you’re going to get on any given day and that isn’t encouraging when you’re making a wager.

Incognito (probable) finished a surprising fourth at the Belmont, and it was surprising because he finished fifth in the aforementioned Peter Pan, so there weren’t high hopes for this three-year-old colt. He has been off since the Belmont, which took place in early June, so he should be well rested and after a grueling race like the 1 ½-mile long Belmont, most thoroughbreds need all the rest they can get.

Mylute (definite) had a strong Triple Crown season, finishing fifth at the Kentucky Derby and then third in the Preakness Stakes, but trainer Thomas Amoss decided to keep him out of the Belmont, so this is a horse that should be raring to go. Mylute is definitely a horse you need to watch out for on Saturday at Saratoga.

Palace Malice (probable) was an afterthought for horse betting sharps going into the Belmont, and after a 12th-place run in the Kentucky Derby, that was no shock. But it was a shock when he went on to steal the Belmont from more highly-touted horses like Oxbow and Orb, and now he has to head into this race as a top favorite, if not the overall favorite. The issue is that Palace Malice is wildly inconsistent and Todd Pletcher, who has trained the winning horse in the Jim Dandy five times, has to figure out a way to fix that.

Perfect Title (probable) is making his graded-stakes debut, and this is a massive test for this colt, which has two wins and never finished lower than fourth in a race. However, it took him four tries to break his maiden and he is now one-for-three in allowance races, and he is going up against some heavy hitters. He has to be considered a horse betting longshot on Saturday, but horse racing is fickle and anything can happen. That said, he’ll need a few breaks to go his way.

Vyjack (probable) did improve from an 18th-place run in the Kentucky Derby to finish eighth at the Belmont after skipping the Preakness, and he is a solid bet for a good showing on Saturday at Saratoga. But is he good enough to win? He does have a third-place run from the Wood Memorial under his belt and two of his first four wins were graded-stakes races, but after watching him in the Triple Crown races, we’re not sure if he can reach that tier.

Will Take Charge (probable) had a middling Triple Crown season, finishing eighth at the Kentucky Derby, seventh in the Preakness and then 10th in the Belmont, so he has experienced races against top-level horses, but we’re not sure if he is capable of stealing one. Palace Malice should give his handlers some hope that he can, but Will Take Charge is another thoroughbred that will need a little luck in order to get to the finish line first.

How It Will Play Out

It is always smart to bet based on consistency, and Mylute fits that mold. Take him as your online betting pick this weekend.
