Native Diver Handicap Stakes Betting Tips – Game On Dude Bounces Back At Hollywood Park

Posted by Marco Sussman on 11/29/2012 6:15:42 PM

Online betting sharps following the thoroughbred-horse scene should be getting ready for 2013, but first there is the matter of settling up for 2012 and one of the final major events is the Grade-3 Native Diver Handicap Stakes at Hollywood Park in California. This is the 34th running of the event, and even though it’s a small field, there is some talent available. This year’s winner should be a horse that is very familiar to those betting players in the know.

What: Horse Betting
When: Saturday, December 1st, post time TBD
Where: Betfair Hollywood Park, Inglewood, CA
Pick: Game On Dude

Game On Dude should be, far and away, considered the horse betting favorite for this race due to his resume: nine wins in 21 career starts, and four of those came in Grade-1 races. Even as a five-year-old, Game On Dude has managed to stay competitive with seven starts in 2012, and all of them have been either Grade-1 or Grade-2 events. He has come out on top in four of those races, but Game On Dude and his handlers likely have a bad taste in their mouths from a 12th-place finish in the Dubai World Cup back in March, and now he’s coming off a seventh-place run in the Breeders’ Cup Classic earlier this month. Still, with his past experience, Game On Dude is the best horse in this small field.

However, Kettle Corn deserves a look as the defending champion in this event, which was his first stakes start after making six starts in allowance or claiming races. Since then, this five-year-old has placed third in the Grade-1 Hollywood Gold Cup, which is also held at Hollywood Park, and he hasn’t finished lower than fourth in four Grade-2 starts, although he is still looking for another win. Kettle Corn should feel very comfortable at Hollywood Park as he has made six starts there, and anything that makes a horse feel comfortable should be a boost to his horse betting odds. If Game On Dude wasn’t in the field, Kettle Corn would probably be the favorite.

Make Music For Me hasn’t started a race since May, when he won an allowance race at Hollywood Park, and that’s not a good sign for a horse that hasn’t typically performed well when up against top-notch competition. This five-year-old made six starts as a two-year-old in 2009, racking up two second-place finishes, a third and a fourth in four graded-stakes races. Since then, Make Music For Me has started 11 graded-stakes events and has a career-best finish of third in the Grade-2 Shrubs Stakes back in 2011. He did finish a respectable fourth in the 2010 Kentucky Derby, but Make Music For Me has been inconsistent during the later part of his career.

Like Game On Dude, Nonios is coming off a disappointing run in the Breeders’ Cup Classic, although sixth-place for a three-year-old shouldn’t be considered that bad. After winning the Grade-3 Affirmed Stakes at Hollywood Park in June, Nonios has three second-place results under his belt (including two in Grade-1 races), but he has also come in fifth in the Grade-1Travers Stakes and then there was the Classic. He has yet to really reach his full potential, and Nonios could really come out and surprise some horse betting players if he can pull off the win at Hollywood Park on Saturday; he could even be mentioned with the top horses looking to compete in next year’s Breeders’ Cup Classic.

Richard’s Kid is the oldest horse in the field at six years old, but he emerged with the best finish at the Classic as he rolled in fifth behind eventual winner Fort Larned. This will be the 10th start of 2012 for Richard’s Kid, and eight of the first nine were graded-stakes races. His wins came in the non-graded Prove It Stakes at Hollywood Park and then in the Grade-3 Cougar II Handicap, and he isn’t getting blown out in the Grade-1 and Grade-2 events either. Richard’s Kid could emerge as a solid darkhorse and wind up making some horse betting players quite happy.

How It Will Play Out

This should be a fun race to watch, but it’s tough to go against Game On Dude when you consider what he has done in the past and the fact that he’s coming off a poor result. Take Game On Dude in your sports betting picks on Saturday.
