Arlington Park is the site of some exciting horse racing this summer

Outside of the always-exciting Arlington Million in August, Arlington Park kind of gets lost in the betting shuffle between New York and California entertainment but online horseplayers can find some juicy wagering situations in the Second City of Chicago.

Long before the original ‘Scarface’ Al Capone used to terrorize the Chicago area, horse racing in Illinois flourished and at one time the area supported 6 different racetracks.

The Million was first run in 1981 and the great John Henry won a thrilling event but 4 years late Arlington was under siege when a small fire spread out of the control and completely destroyed the grandstand and clubhouse.

Nine years ago Arlington hosted the Breeders’ Cup and to visit the venue now is almost like a trip to some European racetrack with towering sights and a huge track.

For online casino horseracing bettors, they have to adapt to the synthetic Polytrack but there is a plethora of information available on the Arlington web site for those that want to go the extra yard.

As far as bias this month, the track has played fair with a slight inclination to favor the inside and only once in the first 19 days of June did runners from slightly off the pace appear to have an advantage.

When handicapping with the Beyer in mind, know that any high-priced maiden claimers to maiden $50,000 performers that run a figure over 75 is doing much better than the pars suggest.

Those allowance horses that vie in the N1X level excel at anything over an 85 figure and if that number is achieved, that runner deserves consideration next out.

There are horse betting several claimers that racing enthusiasts should keep an eye on at Arlington. Chief Bear has been claimed 4 straight times and that speaks volumes in itself. Bothered early in his last race on June 10, but if he comes back at the $10,000 level or slightly lower he will be a handful next out.

The Chief was claimed on the 10th and three different outfits had coveted him.

When a claimer goes from an okay barn to a potent stable, bettors have to pay attention. That was the case recently with Bank Account, who exited the house of trainer Roger Brueggemann and entered the barn of leading trainer Larry Rivelli, who was popping at a whopping 33%.

As far as the human factor is concerned, trainers like Wayne Catalano, Ingrid Mason, Mike Reavis and Mike Stidham put up high percentage figures year in and year out and this summer is no different but there are some sleepers in Chicago.

Bettors should fully analyze any runner hailing from the shedrows of Tim Ice and James Divito, who through June 24 were winning at nearly a 24% clip combined.

The riders at Arlington figure to be in a dogfight the entire meet for leading honors. Six jockeys were within 9 wins of each other through June 24.

E. T. Baird has been doing it with efficiency while Seth Martinez, who cut his teeth in Phoenix, is doing it with numbers.

Martinez also has been value as he has popped with the highest averaged priced winner among the top 15 riders so far this meet at over $18 a winner.

Another value rider has been J.E. Felix, who won with 16 of his first 150 mounts but his average winner paid over $17.

Try to isolate horses at this meet that not only are in good form, but have live connections in their corner.
