Pacific Classic Stakes Betting - 9 Lives

Patrick Valenzuela continues to re-invent himself and he did it in a huge way Sunday with a masterful ride aboard winning Acclamation in the Pacific Classic teaching online horse betting players some lessons in the process.

We have seen this movie before. The maligned rider has been suspended more often than some people change their socks. He out distanced former Los Angeles Dodger Steve Howe by the length of the stretch, and he was just re-instated 13 months ago after he was giving a lifetime ban to race by the California Horse Racing Board.

He is not getting any younger, but horses still run for him and run big time. Back early in his career, when he would return from a suspension, he would usually be pumped up in the first couple of days and post a number of winners. And that has not changed even though he is at an advanced age.

Many in the game will sit down and tell you that he had the ability to be one of the best ever. And that is beyond The Shoe, and the Pirate, Laffit Pincay, Jr. and some of the other greats. Hopefully someday he’ll get his due when he eventually hangs up the boots.
Horses just run for him. The same way they did for now trainer Kenny Black before that rider had his own personal demons jump up and get him.

Patrick puts horses where they belong and he always seems to coax just a little more from them down the lane. It was patented P Val Sunday as he coaxed the leader all the lead going :24.57, :48.65, 1:12.88 before the final clocking of 2:00.61. The Beyer was a solid 105.

It is kind of like a nuclear power war. If you don’t use him, the other guys at the barns will and they just might have the deciding edge. If you do use him, you will be advising your owners that this is the guy to take them and their stock to the promised land.

If you’re betting horses, as far as Acclamation is concerned, trainer Don Warren has his hands on a monster. The runner is already accomplished on grass but now the options abound as he could very well have the sights set on the Breeders’ Cup Classic.

The classy conditioner had this to say about choosing P Val for this mount, Warren: “We were looking for a speed type rider and he’s always been one of the best in the world at putting a horse on the lead, so it was kind of a natural fit. That’s what I look for when I’m trying to choose a jockey is will he fit the horse well. You want Eddie Delahoussaye on a big stretch runner and you want a P Val on a front-runner. It’s that simple.”

The rider had this to say, P Val: “I made sure I got a good break and my main concern was to get him to relax so he could get the whole mile and a quarter, especially on Polytrack which he had never been any good on (winless in six starts). I felt he was very relaxed for the first quarter and the first half as well.

“Game On Dude came and put a little pressure on me and my horse picked it up really nice. I didn’t even have to ask him, he felt the presence of Game On Dude and did it on his own. Going into the three-eighths pole turn, again Game On Dude came up on us and I started to pick him up at little bit at that point and he came on really nice. Into the stretch I threw a cross and I wasn’t going to hit him because I’d studied all his videos and it seems like he’s a horse that runs 110 percent every time. So there was no need to go to the whip.

“Into the stretch, I left Game On Dude. I could hear Twirling Candy come and I saw his shadow. At the sixteenth pole he collared me and had every chance to go by me but my horse just stuck his neck out there and kept running. He’s a fighter, he’s a great horse and it was a great race.”

“We figured out if we could get a 1:12 and change three-quarters he would be very tough to catch. If you watch his races, his last half-mile has been fast. I knew he was going to get the distance. The only questions were handling the Polytrack and the scenario of the race, whether I was going to be able to get away with the fractions I did.”

The lesson is this, riders know how races are supposed to unfold and the sooner sports betting players approach the game that way, the better.
