Predictions For LeComte Stakes Betting – Borels Take Malibu High To The Winner’s Circle

Posted by Marco Sussman on 1/17/2013 5:56:20 PM

Serious horse betting players are already getting ready for the Kentucky Derby in May, and the Lecomte Stakes is one of the first chances that trainers get to trot out thoroughbreds that could have a chance to run for the roses. A couple of familiar names (and one in particular who is in search of a milestone) will be a popular pick come Saturday.

What: Horse Betting
Where: Fair Grounds Race Course, New Orleans, LA
When: Saturday, January 19th, post time TBA

Avie’s Quality

Avie’s Quality took three tries to get his maiden win, then she won the non-graded Display at Woodbine (the only place this horse has ever raced in four career starts) in December. The Kentucky-bred colt has had four different jockeys on his back throughout his career, so trainer Josie Carroll, who won this race in 2001 with Sam’s Lord’s Castle, would probably like to fine a steady hand for Avie’s Quality, who has improved his result in each of his last three outings.

Circle Unbroken

This Florida-bred three-year-old has two wins and a second-place result after taking two tries to break his maiden, and one of those wins came in the Grade-3 Bashford Manor at Churchill Downs in June. However, Circle Unbroken hasn’t been on the race track since August and you have to wonder if the layoff will affect him, especially coming out of the gate. Lenadro Gonclaves has been in the saddle for two of his three starts.

Fear The Kitten

Fear The Kitten is looking to bounce back from a disappointing fifth-place run in the Grade-2 Kentucky Jockey Club in November, and trainer Luis Cotto may be left to wonder if he pushed this horse too quickly after winning allowance and MCL races prior to that. This three-year-old colt has never had the same jockey twice, and that will be another issue for Cotto, but Fear The Kitten has shown some speed, especially in the second half of the race and should be one that horse betting players consider.

Golden Soul

This Kentucky colt has made two starts, coming second in a maiden-special weight before winning on December 30th, and this win came at the Fair Grounds. Golden Soul was ridden to the second-place finish by Calvin Borel (who was sitting on 4,999 wins as of December 28th) before Brian Hernandez Jr. got the win in New Orleans, and trainer Dallas Pike would probably like to get Hernandez Jr. back for this race. Golden Soul is another horse betting option you should keep your eyes on.

Hawaakom also got his first win at the Fair Grounds as he won a MSW race with Gonclaves on his back on December 15th. This followed a poor seventh-place result in his first MSW race at Churchill Downs, and he obviously looked much better at the Fair Grounds, so that could be a bonus for trainer Daniel C. Pertz. This is another Kentucky-bred entrant looking to start in the hometown race in Louisville in May.

Heitai has yet to claim a win, but a third-place finish in the non-graded LA Champions Day Juvenile and a second-place run at another non-graded event, the Louisiana Futurity last month is nothing to be ashamed about. Both races were at the Fair Grounds in December, so this three-year-old from Louisiana should be raring to go as trainer Samuell Breauk looks to get this horse on the right sports betting track to Churchill Downs.

I’ve Struck A Nerve

I’ve Struck A Nerve was busy as a two-year-old, making seven starts last year and after failing to finish no higher than third in his first five starts, this Kentucky-bred colt came in first in his fourth attempt at his maiden win before a second-place run in the non-graded Sugar Bowl in December. Both of those races were at the Fair Grounds and A.R. Napravnik was in the saddle for both races as well, so I’ve Struck A Nerve may be setting in for a good run on Saturday.

Malibu High

Mailbu High is trained by Borel, who is the older brother of Calvin and has had little brother in the saddle for each of this Kentucky colt’s two starts, a pair of first-place finishes in a MSW and a AlwOC race. The latter was at the Fair Grounds and the former came at Churchill Downs, but this is a big step in competition and with the Borels at the helm, anything can happen. Calvin’s name recognition could result in a bump in the horse betting odds.

How It Will Play Out

The trail to the Derby heats up on this stop, and Malibu High should be the pick for online betting sharps.
