Who: Thoroughbreds – Secret Circle (key horse)
What: Horse Racing Betting Tips – The $500,000 Rebel Stakes
Where: Oaklawn Park
When: Saturday, March 17th

With the Grade 2 $500,000 Rebel Stakes set for Saturday at Oaklawn, it brings to mind how the sophomore stars this year resemble the kids portrayed in the film Rebel Without a Cause, as those cast in that movie were confused teenagers much like some of the youngsters hoping to find sports betting glory the first Saturday in May in the Kentucky Derby.

The Rebel Stakes at 8 and a half furlongs has been a nice prep of late for the Triple Crown. Smarty Jones won this race in 2004 and went on to win two-thirds of the Triple Crown.

Back in 1998 Victory Gallop won the Rebel, ran second in the Derby and Preakness, then cashed in the Belmont Stakes.

In 2007, Curlin won the Rebel for fun, but could not catch Street Sense in the Derby. He did win the Preakness and became a two-time Horse of the Year.

Bob Baffert has trained the winner of this race the last two years and last year watched his The Factor parlay a win in the Grade 2 San Vicente to a 6 and a quarter length Rebel win with a 103 Beyer.

Baffert is back for more online sportsbook action and he appears loaded with Secret Circle, who took a division of the Southwest Stakes here last month. Circle posted a game win and has trained fast at Santa Anita since and looms a handful right back.

Unbridled’s Note, who breaks from the inside, lost all chance with the poor start in last. He has a right to run all day long as half sister Spoken Fur banked $675K and won the Grade 1 CCA Oaks at a mile and a half.

Atigun came from left field to post a popular win here in January and has trained steadily for this but will need a trip. He was pointed to the Southwest but had a quarter crack and could not make the race.

Cyber Secret will need to rebound after a poor effort in the Southwest when hooked wide. Not sure the race sets up great for him while Optimizer never got untracked last time and will need a trip to cash.

Sabercat will be making his yearly debut and has trained fast for Steve Asmussen in California. The place horse in the maiden breaker graduated next out, and then took a $200K Delta stakes and was 2nd beaten 3 in Hansen's Gotham.

Scatman was tons best of the rest but was collared by Secret Circle last time and is looking at more speed this time while Jake Mo has more speed than he showed last time when 2nd in Castaway’s win and the blood is there with a near $300,000 earner in the tree.

Reckless Jerry has been very consistent and the feeling is he has not yet reached his top. Toby Keith’s charge should give a good account of himself.

Adirondack King got good for about 2 months in Philly last year and lost a little ground in the lane in his Oaklawn debut. He is hung out in the marooned slot but figures to be coming late.

Pee H Dee is the smart guy that ran evenly in his last but his tactical speed will put him in the thick of it early on.

Najjaar took awhile to figure it out but seems to thrive at Oaklawn and the feeling is we have yet to see his best effort.

Ring It Up figures to stalk but he doesn’t appear to be good enough at this point.

As this race unfolds, look for Rafael Bejarano to get Secret Circle to settle just off the pace. That could be the key to the race. If he can relax, look for Circle to make his move at the top of the lane and draw away. If looking for a score in the exotic, thing about using Najjaar, Reckless Jerry and Unbridled’s Note in the gimmick.

Good luck with the online betting sites.
