Who: Thoroughbreds – Tapizar
What: Horse Racing Tips – The $150,000 Guaranteed San Fernando Stakes
Where: Santa Anita
When: Saturday, January 14th

The Strub Series continues at Santa Anita on Saturday as 4-year-olds are featured in the mile and sixteenth feature San Fernando Stakes.

Some absolute legends have won this race like Round Table, Buckpasser, Damascus, Spectacular Bid, Best Pal, Silver Charm and Tiznow.

Last year Bob Baffert won for the second time in 4 years as his Indian Firewater parlayed a second in the Sir Beaufort stakes to a nose win in the Fernando as he went wire-to-wire to post a 90 Beyer.

This year Baffert may be represented by Prayer for Relief, who raced wide in his last race but brings legit speed to the party and proved it by taking the Super Derby last year.

The son of Jump Start has trained fast for this, as is Baffert’s custom, as he will break from the rail. He has not raced since being hung out to dry from post 12 in a stakes at Churchill but he is repeatedly proven off the bench and can be placed anywhere and still perform.

Balladry, in post 2, took some time to figure it out but has improved as the distances increased. Bred to go long on both sides of the pedigree, he will need plenty of help up front but he can try to draw from his classy dam Storm Song, who was a Grade 1 winner and a millionaire.

Riviting Reason may be shooting for the sport betting online rainbow as he was only a brief factor last time and he only has won once, but his connections have a knack for surprising when you least expect it.

Dreaminofthewin has been training forwardly in Arcadia but arguably his best race last year was a distant third in the Grade 3 Iowa Derby. The best thing he may have going for him is the fact that the last race came back live. The 4th and 5th finishers took allowance races next out, the 6th finisher took a $60K Fair Grounds stakes and the winner took the Grade 3 Discovery with a 94 Beyer.

Irish Art will be taking the same route into this fray as last year’s win as he was 2nd beaten over 3 in the Sir Beaufort and he proved his affinity for this surface taking a $65,000 stakes here at Oak Tree.
This son of Artie Schiller likely has a better sports betting websites future on grass but like Balladry, he has royal blood on the bottom side as his dam Irish Linnet won 18 times, took several Graded stakes and banked over $1.1 million.

Spud Spivens will get the acid test as he was a late third in a cheap spot last time and he is seeking his first stakes score.

First Strike could prove dangerous. He has sprinter speed, will be shooting for his fourth win in a row but you could have taken him from the claim box in his Oak Tree finale.

Tapizar did not get the best of trips in the Breeders’ Cup Dirt Mile but he has trained fast for this for Steve Asmussen and loves the track as evidenced by his Grade 3 Sham win last year.

He brings natural speed to the table but doesn’t need the lead to win. He was boosted in his Sham win as the horse that he beat by nearly 10 lengths came back and took the Grade 2 Lewis.

We started out the year with a speed play at New York that could not hold on but we’re going with the speed right back.

Tapizar is back with Corey Nakatani who was up for the last win and in his victory locally he went to the three quarters in 1:08 and big change.

At 3-1 or higher, Tapizar may never look back.
