Triple Crown Betting - It’s Heating Up

With spring in the air the Triple Crown sports betting picture is starting to heat up and a couple of runners made some noise this weekend coast to coast.

In Florida for Prospective, it was about a night and day kind of trip in the Tampa Bay Derby. In his prior race he was hung wide every step of the way from the marooned 11 post but last Saturday he drew the rail and took full advantage of the cozy slot.

The son of Malibu Moon ran his record to 4 for 7 and he’s only been out of the money once, when he didn’t get the best of trips in Hansen’s BC Juvenile score.

Out of a stakes sports bet winning dam that won routing several times, Prospective has improved his Beyers this year and posted a solid 88 on Saturday.

Trainer Mark Casse had added blinkers for the first time and Prospective responded by being fairly close up the entire race. And this is not overnight sensation. Prospective cost $250,000 but now has earned nearly double that number.

Maybe more importantly, this guy proved he could handle quality runners in a big field. Casse is a solid trainer and has hit about about 21% this year alone.

Prospective will be pointed to the Wood Memorial on April 7 at Aqueduct instead of racing in the Blue Grass at Keeneland a week later.

Out West, it was a case of cause and effect in the San Felipe Stakes as the top two choices in the race, Creative Cause and Bodemeister, put on a show for the fans in a tooth and nail battle with Cause prevailing by a half length.

Creative Cause is a serious runner and has been expertly handled by trainer Mike Harrington. He was third in the BC Juvenile and got an ideal 7-furlong prep for Saturday’s race with a solid third in the San Vicente.

It took him awhile to switch leads, but once he did, the Cause just took off.

As for the winner the class is stamped all over his bottom side, as his dam Dream of Summer was a flat-out monster. She won several stakes routing, took 10 of her 20 starts and banked over $1.1 million.

Creative Cause’s rider Joel Rosario was impressed with the effort. Rosario: “ My horse was a little green at the top of the lane, but I wanted to make sure that he didn’t wait for another horse to come beat him. He galloped out good after the wire which helps to show he may be the right horse for the Derby.”

Derby fever and Derby dreaming has evidently hit Joel.

Next stop for Cause will be the Santa Anita Derby the same day as the Wood Memorial.

Bodemeister was coming off a facile near 10-length maiden breaking win and he will live to fight another day. Getting an education in this race, even in defeat, could be one of the best things that may have happened to this runner.

This youngster is in the right hands of Bob Baffert and if he stays healthy will be a sportsbook factor moving forward.
