West Virginia Breeders’ Classic Betting – The King Of Charles Town Does It Again

Posted by on 2/5/2014 4:58:21 AM

Sports betting players following horses will move to West Virginia for their Breeders’ Classic, and even though it is a non-graded race, the purse is still $500,000 for three-year-olds and older out of West Virginia. One horse has dominated Charles Town for a while now, and he’ll show why on Saturday.

What: Horse Betting
When: Saturday, October 19th, post time TBA
Where: Charles Town Races And Slots, Charles Town, WV
Pick: Lucy’s Bob Boy

(All horses listed as possible as of Wednesday, October 16th)

Allegheny Jack has made just one start in his career, and that came at last year’s West Virginia Breeders’ Classic. He came in a very respectable third on that day, but has yet to make another appearance on a race track, so you have to wonder if rust will come into play.

Clink Clink Clink hasn’t raced since 2010, when he finished fifth in a maiden race and that has to put him near the bottom of the horse betting odds for Saturday’s race. That was way back as a two-year-old and Clink Clink Clink is now five. This could play into his favor, or it could go very badly for this thoroughbred.

Figpenn is another horse that hasn’t had a lot of work, but he did win an allowance race back in January, so that’s something for players to hang their hats on. There isn’t a lot of information out there pertaining to this horse, so he is probably something to stay away from.

Fred High came in third in the non-graded Confucius Says Stakes back in April, but hasn’t been on the track since. Still, that was a good result for this five-year-old and that could put him near the top of the list of favorites for Saturday’s race.

Golden Set finished fourth in the Confucius Says, and he has finished between second and sixth in his last five starts, so he is worth a watch. He has never run in a graded-stakes race before, but in a field full of local horses, that doesn’t mean a lot. He does have some experience and that could give him a leg up on the competition.

Luca’s Wind Dancer has made eight starts in 2013, winning an allowance race back in May. However, he has just one other finish inside the top three and when seven of those eight starts came in allowance races, some horse betting players could be skeptical about the chances of Luca’s Wind Dancer.

Lucy’s Bob Boy could be the best horse to ever run at Charles Town, if you look at the stats: in 18 starts there, he has 15 wins and three second-place results. Sure, they were all allowance or non-graded stakes races, but you can only run the races put in front of you and Charles Town isn’t a place for graded-stakes events, for the most part. When it comes to thoroughbred horse racing, this four-year-old has the edge on this track and he is the defending champion in this particular event.

Mister Brass has won a couple of allowance races at Charles Town this year and has finished either first or second in each of his last five starts, including a third in the non-graded Roger Ramey Handicap last month. He could pose a challenge to Lucy’s Bob Boy, if he can push through the final part of the race.

Russell Road finished second to Lucy’s Bob Boy in the West Virginia Breeders’ Classic after winning it in 2011 (along with a victory in 2009), and he has four wins in 11 starts. He has one start this year, in which he finished second to Lucy’s Bob Boy once again, and the two have finished one-two in three straight head-to-head meetings. They should be one-two in the horse betting odds on Saturday.

Sea Rescue finished third in an allowance race at Charles Town in 2011, and at seven years old he should be past his best. It’ll take a monster effort to keep up with the frontrunners this weekend for this horse, but you never know.

Son Of A Bear finished third behind Lucy’s Bob Boy in the non-graded Frank Gall Memorial two months ago, and he could push the top two if he gives his best showing. Unfortunately, that is what it will take and even then, a win would be tough.

Strawberry Cupcake is another horse in which it is tough to find information on, and that doesn’t usually bode well for a thoroughbred; he’ll be a horse betting longshot.

How It Will Play Out

There is no reason to think that this won’t be a showdown between Lucy’s Bob Boy and Russell Road, and Lucy’s Bob Boy will pull out another victory for online betting players.
