Vyjack Keeps A Perfect Record At Aqueduct

Online betting players are getting closer to the Kentucky Derby in May, and the Wood Memorial is one of the biggest race on the prep trail; it is one of just five Grade-1 races leading up to the “Run for the Roses”. The winner of this 1 1/8-mile affair will be a horse that knows this racetrack very well.

What: Horse Betting
When: Saturday, April 6th, post time TBA
Where: Aqueduct Racetrack, Ozone Park, NY
Pick: Vyjack

Since breaking his maiden at Saratoga last September, Always In A Tiz’s results haven’t gotten worse in each of his last three starts and a fifth-place run at the Grade-3 Southwest Stakes can’t be encouraging at all. This colt may need a top-three or better in order to stay on the road to Churchill Downs next month, but it’s going to take a huge performance on Saturday.

Chrisandthecapper finally broke his maiden in March, and it was at Aqueduct, so that could be a sign of good things. However, expect him to be a horse betting darkhorse in this race as he has never run further than six furlongs and the Wood Memorial is stretched out over nine, so it’ll be interesting to see how Chrisandthecapper handles this distance.

Elnaawi has made all three of his career starts at Aqueduckt, breaking his maiden in his second attempted before a respectable third-place finish in the Grade-3 Gotham Stakes last month. It was a solid start for this colt, but the Wood is a huge race and the competition he’ll face here will be unlike anything he has seen before.

Freedom Child is another horse that will be receiving a huge step up in competition, and it doesn’t bode well for his horse betting odds that he needed four attempts to get his maiden win, which finally came last month. He has raced at Aqueduct once before, posting a second-place result in an MSW race in November, but he’ll need a much better run if he’s going to go on to the Grade-3 Illinois Derby in just over two weeks.

Go Get The Basil just finished second in an allowance race at Aqueduct after three wins in allowance or maiden-clearance races, but this race is a different ball game for the three-year-old colt and this will really prove if he is ready for the big time. He doesn’t have any other races on tap, but Go Get The Basil is one to watch outside of the more high-profile thoroughbreds here.

Mr. Palmer needed six attempts to break his maiden, but it finally came at Aqueduct in February and then he followed it up with a win in the non-graded Private Terms last month. Now that the maiden is in the rearview, we can see what Mr. Palmer is really made of, and this field will be a test of his abilities.

Normandy Invasion is one of the most talented horses in this field, but a fifth-place run in the Grade-2 Risen Star in February left a bad taste in the mouth of many a horse betting player. The goal for this horse is still the Kentucky Derby, but he’ll need a top-three finish to stay in the minds of sharps looking to bet on the “Run for the Roses next month.

Quinzieme Monarque has won just once in six starts (he won his maiden in his third attempt) and he has posted three straight fourth-place results, including in the Grade-2 Remsen at Aqueduct in November and the Grade-3 Palm Beach Stakes at Gulfstream Park in March. He may be one of those horses that is good enough to run with the best thoroughbreds, but not good enough to beat them and that is worrying.

Verranzano has to be one of the prohibitive favorites in this race, coming in this race with a perfect record, although it has only been three starts. He beat a good field in the Grade-2 Tampa Bay Derby in March and has a top-of-the-line trainer in Todd Pletcher (who won this race in 2010 with Eskenderya and last year with Gemologist), and that’s always good to have going into a big race.

Vyjack will share the status of favorite with Verranzano as he is 4-for-4, all of which came at Aqueduct. The most recent victory was in the Grade-3 Gotham Stakes in early March and many are banking on Vyjack to take the next step on the road to Louisville.

How It Will Play Out

A little bit of hometrack advantage will come into play as Vyjack edges out Verranzano for an exciting sports betting victory on Saturday.
