Woodbine Mile Betting Tips – Wise Dan Continues Hot Streak On The Racetrack

Posted by Marco Sussman on 9/13/2012 6:29:30 PM

Sports betting players know all about momentum and horse racing can be affected by that as well. At the Grade-1 Woodbine Mile on Sunday just outside of Toronto, a horse that has been able to do no wrong as of late will add another win to his resume.

What: Horse Betting
When: Sunday, September 16th, post time TBA
Where: Woodbine Racetrack, Toronto, Ontario, CA
Pick: Wise Dan

All 13 of Artic Fern’s career starts and even though this five-year-old has won six of those races, only one has come in a race that wasn’t an allowance, maiden or claiming race. Artic Fern did finish a respectable third in the Grade-2 Connaught Cup back in May and then second at the Ontario Jockey Club Stakes in July, but the jury is still out on him.

Big Band Sound has had a very successful 2012 campaign, racking up two wins and four second-place finishes in seven starts, with one win coming in his last start, the Play The King Stakes at Woodbine in August. He has also finished second in two graded-stakes races this year, and this five-year-old horse should be a threat on Sunday in the biggest race of his career.

Cityscape has had a busy career with 20 starts, and this six-year-old from Great Britain has been entered in a ton of graded-stakes races, which should help when it comes to experience. His last five starts have been in Grade-1 races, posting a win and two second-place runs, and overall, Cityscape has finished in the top three in 15 of these 20 races. This is Cityscape’s first trip to Woodbine, but with his experience, that shouldn’t even be an issue.

Dance And Dance is a six-year-old gelding that finished sixth in last year’s Woodbine Mile and he has finished third or better in his last four starts, which includes a victory in the Condition Stakes. That feat should be considered all the more impressive by horse betting sharps as Dance And Dance has been ridden by four different jockeys during that time, and it would be great to see what he could do with a regular jockey. Jamie Spencer was supposed to be that regular jockey, but he hasn’t ridden Dance And Dance since an 11th-place run in a handicap race in February.

Hollinger was also entered in last year’s Woodbine Mile, which was won by Turallure, and Hollinger came in eighth in the event. Hollinger also just finished third in the King Edward Stakes at Woodbine, where most of his career experience has come from, but he has never really gotten over the hump to become one of the premier older horses in Canada. This five-year-old could make an impact, or he could fade into obscurity.

Hunters Bay and his handlers have an eye on the Breeders Cup Classic in November, but he’ll have to pull out another win or two, especially after finishing seventh in the Grade-1 Whitney Handicap at Saratoga in August. This followed back-to-back wins in Grade-3 races at Woodbine, but a handicap is a different kind of race than what he’ll be running on Sunday and the competition should be better in this race, a Grade-1. A win here would put Hunters Bay on the right track to the Classic.

Riding The River has been battling with Big Band Sound over the last couple months, finishing first in the King Edward, then coming in second to Big Band Sound in the Play The King event. He finished fifth in last year’s Woodbine Mile and he should be very used to the track as Woodbine is the only place that Riding The River has ever raced, so it is almost like a home event for him.

Wise Dan is another horse that has his sights on the Breeders Cup Classic, but he could also be entered in the Breeders Cup Mile. He has been on fire over the last year, posting six wins in his last eight starts and seven of those races have been of the graded-stakes variety. He has never been to Woodbine, but that shouldn’t stop Wise Dan.

Worthadd is the second international entry as he hails from Ireland, and the five-year-old is coming off a second-place run in the Grade-2 Preis Von Audi Zentrum Hannover event, which was a nice recovery from an 11th-place run in the Grade-1 Queen Anne Stakes. Still, don’t expect a lot from Worthadd on Sunday.
