UFC Betting: Fight Night: Machida vs. Romero Main Card

Posted by on 6/25/2015 10:36:10 PM

The Ultimate Fighting Championships plans to host The Ultimate Fighter Brazil 4 Finale in South America were spoiled when several international fighters experienced travel issues due to technical problems within the US State Department resulting in major changes for the card as multiple fights were postponed. The lightweight and bantamweight finals will now take place at UFC 190 in August and in place of the scheduled event for this weekend will be the UFC Fight Night: Machida vs. Romero card live from the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Hollywood, Florida. Here is a complete breakdown of the main card for the UFC Fight Night: Machida vs. Romero along with the best bets for each fight.

Middleweight Bout

(22-6-0) Lyota Machida vs. Yoel Romero (9-1-0)

Romero has gone undefeated against increasingly difficult competition since entering the UFC and he will try to continue that trend against the former champion in Machida this weekend. There is no doubt that he is a scary talent and he has the potential to be a title contender if he can continue his run against an experienced and talented fighter in Machida. The former champion has lost two of his last three fights with a TKO victory over CB Dollaway bookended by losses to Chris Weidman and Luke Rockhold so he is definitely vulnerable heading in to this bout. Romero has inched closer to becoming a true contender with every win and this could very well be his coming out party in the UFC as he established himself as a top title contender.

Pick: Romero -150

Middleweight Bout

Antonio Carlos Jr. (4-1-0) vs. Eddie Gordon (7-3-0)

Gordon is coming off consecutive losses and another loss could result in his exit from the UFC. His biggest problem isn’t necessarily that he isn’t capable as much as that Carlos Jr. is coming off his first-career loss and will be eager to bounce back with a statement win. Gordon will do his best to avoid going to the ground with a much better submission fighter but Carlos Jr. also has some considerable power and should be able to stay in control of this fight and win either via stoppage or decision.

Pick: Carlos Jr. -200

Welterweight Bout

(19-2-0) Santiago Ponzinibbio vs. Lorenz Larkin (15-4-0)

Santiago has bounced back well with consecutive wins following a loss in his UFC debut but he will be in tough against a quality opponent that excels in the clinch. Larkin snapped a string of three straight losses with a TKO win over John Howard and while those defeats were an obvious stain on his resume he is still a quality veteran fighter that matches up well against Santiago. Both fighters pack a ton of power and that should lead to an entertaining fight but we like Larkin in this spot either via decision or knockout.

Pick: Larkin -225

Middleweight Bout

(10-1-0) Steve Bosse vs. Thiago Santos (10-3-0)

Bosse has won eight straight fights but he hasn’t fought in over two years and he could be a little rusty heading in to his UFC debut. The same cannot be said about Santos who despite splitting his four UFC fights has been the more active of the two and that should make him a lot sharper heading in to this bout.

Pick: Santos -190

Featherweight Bout

(22-3-1) Hacran Dias vs. Levan Makashvili (7-1-0)

Dias is the better submission specialist while Makashvili is the better wrestler and we feel that matchup favors Makashvili so long as he can handle Dias on the ground and keep him from locking in a submission. Makashvili also packs a ton of power and if he sees the opening he could end this bout in a hurry via knockout so we will run with the underdog for this fight.

Pick: Makashvili +155
