UFC Betting: Fight Night – Mir vs Duffee

Posted by on 7/13/2015 10:03:19 PM

One of the most promising young fighters in the UFC heavyweight division will take on a former champion in the main event of an absolutely loaded card for the UFC Fight Night: Mir vs. Duffee. The battle between the old guard and new guard isn’t limited to the main event either as an extremely busy month of July continues on Wednesday in San Diego, California. Here is a look at the best bets on the board for this week’s UFC Fight Night: Mir vs. Duffee main card.

Heavyweight Bout

(17-9-0) Frank Mir vs. Todd Duffee (9-2-0)

Duffee is the 29-year-old rising star in the UFC heavyweight division that has strung together three straight wins and is looking to prove his worth against a former champion in Mir. There is no doubt about Duffee’s power and strength as he has clinched each of his nine wins via knockout including each of the last three within the first 2:04 of the opening round. Mir bounced back from a string of four straight losses with an impressive knockout win over Antonio Silva but Silva himself hasn’t won a fight since 2013 and it looks as though Mir is set to become another stepping stone for Duffee as he moves one step closer to his goal of earning a title shot.

Pick: Todd Duffee -190

Lightweight Bout

(20-7-0) Josh Thomson vs. Tony Ferguson (18-3-0)

Ferguson is also looking to fight his way in to the UFC Lightweight title picture and he enters this bout on the heels of five straight wins including four stoppages. Ferguson’s nine knockout wins are testament to his punching power but he has also earned three of his last five wins via submission and will look to put down Thomson one way or another. The 36-year-old Thomson has lost consecutive fights and four of his last six bouts and even though the last two were split decision defeats to Benson Henderson and Bobby Green he will be in very tough to get back on track.

Pick: Tony Ferguson -200

Women’s Bantamweight Bout

(8-0-0) Holly Holm vs. Marion Reneau (6-1-0)

Reneau is 38-years-old but she has won five straight fights including a submission win over Jessica Andrade to earn the opportunity to try and end Holm’s perfect run so even though she will have a tough time doing it she definitely deserves this opportunity. Reneau has plenty of experience and understands the importance of sticking with her strengths but it might not matter against the boxer turned mixed martial artist in Holm. Holm is undefeated at 8-0 and after earning a split decision win over Racquel Pennington she will be eager to get back in the Octagon and fight with much more urgency to avoid another close call and that could mean securing a knockout win the same way she did in six of her eight-career victories.

Pick: Holly Holm -180

Bantamweight Bout

(15-10-0) Scott Jorgensen vs. Manny Gamburyan (14-8-0)

It’s no secret that Jorgensen has tapped out in three of his last four losses and now he is set to go up against an opponent that has earned exactly half of his 14-careeer wins via submission. Gamburyan will look to bring this fight to the ground as he tries to string together a second consecutive win and considering his strengths match up with Jorgensen’s biggest weakness it won’t be a surprise when he wins.

Pick: Manny Gamburyan -150

Lightweight Bout

(10-1-0) Kevin Lee vs. James Moontasri (8-2-0)

Lee is coming off three straight wins since his unanimous decision loss to Al Iaquinta and is a substantial favorite heading in to this bout against Moontasri, who is coming off a submission win over Cody Pfister. Lee is still just 22-years-old and he continues to look better with every fight so look for him to extend his win streak with a win over Moontasri.

Pick: Kevin Lee -260

Welterweight Bout

(11-3-0) Alan Johban vs. Matt Dwyer (8-2-0)

The biggest disparity on paper for the main card will be in the opening fight when the veteran Jouban looks to take out Dwyer but it could also represent the best opportunity to take a chance on an underdog fighter hoping he could surprise the world. Jouban is listed at -420 but Dwyer’s punching power could be the equalizer as each of his eight-career victories has come via knockout. There is no doubt he will be looking for another KO or TKO against Jouban in this tilt and he doesn’t need a big window to take him out for the win so it might be worth taking a shot here.

Pick: Matt Dwyer +335
