Silva Belfort Betting – Silva Defends Title In Brazilian Slugfest

Most sports betting players can appreciate dominance, and there haven’t been many more dominant in their sport than Anderson Silva, but the future UFC Hall of Famer hasn’t been impressive lately, especially to his boss. The middleweight champion will get a chance to put on a show and defend his crown at UFC 126 in Las Vegas on February 5th, taking on fellow Brazilian Vitor Belfort, and fans should expect a knockout as both like to stand toe-to-toe. Look for the champion to find his range and come away with a much-needed win.

Anderson “The Spider” Silva (27-4-1-0, 15 KOs) (-240 to win)

Silva hasn’t lost a fight since January 2006, a span of 14 fights, and even that was due to kicking Yushin Okami in the head while he was on the ground…Silva, not Okami. Since then, Silva has claimed the title of the best pound-for-pound fighter on the planet, knocking out the likes of Rich Franklin (twice), Forrest Griffin, Chris Leben and Nate Marquardt, while submitting Dan Henderson, and he’s been moving back and forth between the middleweight and light-heavyweight classes because of his dominance at 185 pounds. He has held the middleweight title since October 2006, and until recently, looked untouchable, but his latest fights have been strange, to say the least. Silva fought Demian Maia at UFC 112 and danced around, mocking Maia, who tried to goad the champ into a grapping match. Then, UFC betting players saw arguably the greatest escape they’ve ever seen as Silva was getting manhandled by Chael Sonnen at UFC 117, as Sonnen took him down at well and pounded him throughout the match. Then, Silva snuck in a triangle with under 2:00 min left in the fifth round to extend his record for title defenses to seven. That fight may have woken Silva up as he started to look bored with the middleweight division.

Vitor “The Phenom” Belfort (19-8, 13 KOs)

The man known as “The Phenom” returned to the UFC in September 2009, and he did it big with a knockout of Franklin, although that was fought at 195 pounds. But he has a great pedigree already, winning a UFC heavyweight tournament back in 1997, and the former champion at 205 pounds has lost to some pretty tough guys: a pair of losses to Randy Couture (he also beat Couture for the light-heavyweight title in January 2004), Chuck Liddell, Dan Henderson and Tito Ortiz and remember, this was when those guys were in their prime. He left due to a steroid controversy back in October 2006 after a loss to Henderson, but Belfort is eager to reclaim his place as one of the UFC’s top fighters. Belfort’s strength is in his knockout power, and he’s a middleweight that may have the power of a heavyweight and since he’s a southpaw, he could come at Silva from some different angles. Now that both fighters are healthy after injuries and surgeries, Belfort will have no excuses if he doesn’t come away with the title.

UFC 126 Betting And Prediction

The champion is favored at -240 over Belfort, who comes in at +190, and this should be a fight that Silva can get up for. Silva’s recent opponents have spent their time trying to get him on the ground, because they know he’s one of the best strikers in the world, and Sonnen showed that he could be taken on the mat, although Sonnen is a world-class wrestler. But UFC president hasn’t been impressed by Silva’s showboating performances, and he paired him up against a striker that will be happy to stand there and trade with the champion. When Belfort lets his hands go, he is as dangerous as anyone in MMA, but we think the fight with Sonnen may have sparked Silva, who had been rolling over everyone in his path in the middleweight and light-heavyweight divisions. After three decisions in his last four fights, look for Silva to try and end this fight early, although his best bet may be to try and extend the fight as Belfort has just one decision in his last five fights, and three of them has ended in the first round, so there could be some questions about his stamina in a championship fight. Still, we don’t see this going the distance as well as these strikers can throw hands, and we think Silva will want to put on a show to prove he’s still the king of MMA. Go with Anderson Silva to defend his title in your online betting picks.
