UFC on Fuel TV 10 Event Bolstered By Homegrown Talent, Strong Main Event

Posted by Jack "The Hammer" Howard on 6/3/2013 7:25:02 PM

The Ultimate Fighting Championships will head back to Brazil this month, with a visit to the Paulo Sarasate Gymnasium in Fortaleza, Brazil for the UFC on Fuel TV 10 event. The main event will feature a heavyweight rematch between the two coaches from season two of The Ultimate Fighter: Brazil in Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira and Fabricio Werdum – both of whom are still very much in the UFC Heavyweight title picture. There will also be a ton of homegrown talent in the mix, including rising lightweight star Leonardo Santos and an all-Brazilian light heavyweight taking on William Macario and an all-Brazilian light heavyweight showdown between Thiago Silva and Rafael Cavalcante. The main card is deep with six quality bouts, but it is the three tilts being hyped the most that stand out.

The fight between Silva and Cavalcante was originally rumored to be in the mix for the UFC 162 Pay Per View, but moved to the UFC on Fuel TV 10 sports betting event in order to bolster the card. The hometown talent made the move a natural fit, and both fighters are looking to establish themselves on the radar in the light heavyweight division. Silva last fought in a no-decision versus Stanislav Nedkov following a positive test for Marijuana metabolites – a fight he originally won via submission. Now Silva will attempt to bounce back in his first fight since November of 2011 against another fighter whose last fight was overturned by a post-fight drug test in Cavalcante, who beat Mike Kyle via submission in a Strikeforce event in May but had the result overturned by the CSAC because of a positive test. A loss will really hurt both fighters as they look to make a comeback, and that should make for an interesting bout with plenty of knockout and submission potential.

That fight will lead in to an online sportsbook lightweight bout between newcomer Leonardo Santos and William Macario, with some potentially major title implications. Both fighters are somewhat unknown in the UFC, but Santos in particular has won five-straight fights in lesser promotions including three first-round submissions, making this one of the better technical fights to look forward to in the lead up to the main event.

That main event will include one of the most intriguing stars in the UFC heavyweight division in Werdum, as the former Strikeforce star looks to build his reputation in the UFC and earn a title shot. Werdum destroyed Roy Nelson and then beat up on Mike Ruslow in his last online betting tilt, and his strong Brazilian Jiu Jitsu will make for an interesting technical showdown versus Big Nog. Nogueira has hung around by splitting his last four fights, and will be the perfect test for Werdum as he looks to fight his way in to the title picture. Werdum should be able to hold his own standing up, but with both fighters so technically skilled and each yielding tremendous knockout power, the truth is that anything can happen in the main event as the UFC on Fuel TV 10 goes down in Brazil.
