While online betting players may be looking towards the main events of UFC 127 in Sydney, which features B.J. Penn, Jon Fitch, Michael Bisbing and Jorge Rivera. But there will be plenty of action in the undercard, with the spotlight on an Australian fighter looking to secure his place as a top lightweight in the UFC against a very difficult opponent.

  • What: UFC Betting
  • Where: Acer Arena, Sydney, Australia
  • When: February 26th, 2011

George Sotiropoulos vs. Dennis Siver

Sotiropoulos (14-2, one KO), a native of Australia, has been moving up the lightweight ranks in the UFC as he is undefeated in six professional fights after coming out of the sixth season of “The Ultimate Fighter”. Siver (17-7, five KOs), out of Germany, is a battler who will represent the toughest test of Sotiropoulos’ career, and both are very similar with backgrounds in Brazilian jiu-jitsu. This will be exciting as both have won “Fight of the Night” honors, but Sotiropoulos knows this could be his big step towards a title fight. Siver is tough, but he can be undisciplined and fall into a submission, which plays into the Australian’s hands.

Betting Edge: George Sotiropoulos

Carlos Condit vs. Chris Lytle

Condit (26-5, 12 KOs) has stepped up with three straight wins since losing his UFC debut in April 2009, with wins over Jake Ellenberger, Rory MacDonald and Dan Hardy, earning “Fight of the Night” and “Knockout of the Night” honors in his last two welterweight bouts. His next test is Lytle (30-17-5, four KOs) is an experienced submission artist who was in the fourth season of “The Ultimate Fighter”, and he has won his last four fights. Not only that, Lytle is an exciting fighter who has won “Fight of the Night” four times, along with a couple of “Submission of the Night” honors and a “KO of the Night” as well. Both are very well-rounded fighters, and this is an excellent candidate for “Fight of the Night” and while Lytle is no slouch, we’re betting on Condit to use his vast reach advantage to eke out a close win.

Betting Edge: Carlos Condit

Chris Camozzi vs. Kyle Noke

Camozzi (14-3, three KOs) was a member of the cast in the 11th season of “The Ultimate Fighter”, but a broken jaw was his undoing (although he did fight in the finale). He earned a split decision in his first UFC pro fight, beating Dong Yi Yang at UFC 121, but Camozzi will likely have to win big against Noke (18-4-1, six KOs), who also fought in the finale of the “The Ultimate Fighter 11” in his debut. Then Noke submitted Rob Kimmons at UFC 121 to set up this middleweight tilt, and the Australian native would love to give the home fans a show, which we think he will. Camozzi didn’t really look impressive against Yang and we think Noke is better than Yang. Camozzi struggled with his takedown defense, and Noke is a strong wrestler who will look to take this fight to the mat, which he will then submit Camozzi for a UFC betting victory.

Betting Edge: Kyle Noke

Ross Pearson vs. Spencer Fisher

Pearson (11-4, two KOs), from England, won it all in “The Ultimate Fighter 9”, and he was rolling along in the lightweight division before he was submitted by Cole Miller in September 2010. Fisher (24-6, 10 KOs) bounced back from a pair of losses to win a decision over Curt Warburton at UFC 120, and this is going to be a great UFC betting matchup as both have backgrounds in Muay Thai and boxing. Neither fighter can afford another loss in a lightweight division that is getting increasingly tougher, which means both will likely go for broke what should be a donnybrook. This fight could very well end up being a split decision, but we think Fisher’s experience will push him up the ladder.

Betting Edge: Spencer Fisher

Mark Hunt vs. Chris Tuchscherer

A Samoan by way of New Zealand will step into the octagon as Hunt (5-7, three KOs) looks to improve on what has been a very strange career, posting wins over Wanderlei Silva and Mirko “Cro-Cop” Filipovic, but he has lost six fights in a row and has a habit of getting stuck in submissions. His opponent in this heavyweight bout will be Tuchscherer (18-3-0-1, seven KOs), who has lost two of his three fights in the UFC, and this is an interesting matchup of styles as Tuchscherer is a wrestler, and Hunt is a kickboxer, so we can expect Tuchscherer to try and get this fight to the mat so he can execute a ground-and-pound. Tuchscherer can also submit people, which could be his best bet against Hunt, who will be going for the knockout as soon as he can. Tuchscherer is the better all-around MMA fighter, and we’re making him the pick in our sports betting book.

Betting Edge: Chris Tuchscherer
