Online betting players have witnessed the UFC take over the MMA world, and with their purchase of the WEC, they now have a competitive bantamweight division. Two of the best at 135 pounds will get inside the octagon for the first time on Saturday at UFC 128.

  • What: UFC Betting
  • When: Saturday, March 19th, 10:00 PM ET
  • Where: Prudential Center, Newark, NJ

Urijah Faber vs. Eddie Wineland (Bantamweight)

Faber (24-4) is a huge -415 favorite in their UFC debuts against Wineland (18-6-1), and Faber made his name as the WEC featherweight champion, but Wineland is no slouch as he was the first bantamweight champion in the WEC, and he has earned “Knockout of the Night” in his last two fights. Faber is a submission specialist, but he does have the power to knock you out. Wineland has lost four of his six fights via submission, so Faber is a bad matchup for him because it only takes one mistake and Wineland will be sewn up. Faber has a lot of pressure on him as president Dana White expects him to be one of the flagbearers for the UFC’s bantamweight division, and we think he’ll be able to execute for either a submission or decision victory.

Betting Edge: Elijah Faber -415

Joseph Benavidez vs. Ian Loveland (Bantamweight)

Benavidez (13-2) is a -350 favorite against Loveland (14-7) in another UFC debut, and Benavidez is known for his wars with Dominick Cruz in which he lost a pair of decisions, the second of which was a split-decision loss for the WEC title. Loveland made his debut at the “Ultimate Fighter 12” finale, beating Tyler Toner by a decision, but he has lost six times via submission, and Benavidez’s bread-and-butter is his submission, especially his dangerous guillotines. Also, Benavidez is a southpaw and that can throw some fighters off, and we think he’ll pull out a win in his UFC betting debut.

Betting Edge: Joseph Benavidez -350

Mirko Filipovic vs. Brendan Schaub (Heavyweight)

Schaub (7-1) is a -285 favorite in this UFC betting encounter against “Cro Cop” (27-8-2-1), and while Filipovic is a shell of his former self, he is still capable of taking down anyone in the heavyweight division. Schaub is bounced back from a knockout loss to Roy Nelson at the “Ultimate Fighter 10” with three straight wins, and Schaub even proved that he could go the distance in beating Gabriel Gonzaga at UFC 121. Filipovic’s best bet is to catch a submission because everyone is watching out for the head kicks he made famous, but his biggest worry is a chin that has let him down in recent years, and Schaub has power for days. You wouldn’t be wrong for laying a bet on “Cro Cop” at +225, but his best days are behind him, so we have to take the favorite.

Betting Edge: Brendan Schaub -285

Jim Miller vs. Kamal Shalorus (Lightweight)

Miller (19-2) is favored at -240 against Shalorus (7-0-2), who is making his UFC debut, and has never lost in nine MMA fights. He is a wrestler with knockout power, while Miller will throw a submission on you before you know what is going on. He earned the “Submission of the Night” in his last fight, his second in the UFC, but he’s also comfortable on his feet. Even though these two are wrestlers, they could end up standing on their feet for a lot of the fight, and a lot of people aren’t giving Shalorus any credit. We’re pegging him for our first upset of the night as we give him the edge standing up, although that’s no disrespect to Miller. We think this will go to a decision.

Betting Edge: Kamal Shalorus +190

Nate Marquardt vs. Dan Miller (Middleweight)

Jim’s brother Dan (14-4-0-1) is a +240 underdog against Marquardt (30-10-2), who has lost two of his last three fights and is aiming to move back up the middleweight ranks. Miller has won two in a row after losing three consecutive fights, all by decision, and he will look for the submission. The problem is, Marquardt is an excellent grappler who is very comfortable on the ground, and he may be better than Miller. Marquardt also has the edge on the ground, and he has a bit of an advantage because Miller had to take this fight on short notice. Marquardt was supposed to fight Yoshihiro Akiyama, who had to pull out of the fight due to the Japan earthquake and subsequent tsunami, and Miller jumped at the chance. However, his sports betting chances aren’t that great.

Betting Edge: Nate Marquardt -300
