UFC 150 Betting Predictions – Henderson-Edgar Rematch Headlines UFC’s Latest Trip To Denver

Posted by Jack “The Hammer” Howard on 8/8/2012 6:14:37 PM

Online betting players will remember UFC 135, which was the company’s first trip to Denver, but the larger weight classes suffered in the high altitude. There are no classes above 185 pounds on the bill for UFC 150 on Saturday, and the main event features a rematch for the lightweight tilt, which should be just as good as the first fight, but it will also have a similar ending, which bodes well for the current champ at 155 pounds.

What: UFC Betting
When: Saturday, August 11th, main card starts at 9:00 PM ET
Where: Pepsi Center, Denver, CO

Ben Henderson (16-2) vs. Frankie Edgar (14-2) – Lightweight Championship Bout

Henderson has emerged as a -175 favorite in this contest, which is lower than the first tilt in which he took the 155-pound belt from Edgar, who is undersized for the division, but has an insane amount of heart. However, Henderson is technically strong enough to deal with Edgar wherever the fight goes and he is a little more well-rounded than Edgar, so expect another decision victory for the champion, who will go on to face Nate Diaz at some point.

UFC Betting Pick: Ben Henderson

Donald Cerrone (18-4, 1 NC) vs. Melvin Guillard (30-10-2, 1 NC) – Lightweight

Cerrone is a huge -285 favorite in this battle of former teammates, and both are experienced strikers that know what to do when the fight is standing. Cerrone is a top-notch kickboxer that bounced back from a loss to Diaz by dominating Jeremy Stephens, while Guillard showed improved submission defense in a win over Fabricio Camoes. But Cerrone knows that Guillard still has to do some work on the ground and he is an excellent submission artist, which will be Guillard’s downfall.

UFC Betting Pick: Donald Cerrone

Jake Shields (27-6-1) vs. Ed Herman (20-7) – Middleweight

Shields returns to the middleweight division after losing to champion Georges St. Pierre and defeating Yoshihiro Akiyama, and 185 pounds could be more comfortable for Shields as he won the Strikeforce belt in that weight class. Herman has won three straight fights and has shown that he can submit fighters, but he doesn’t want to get into a mat battle with Shields, who has competed at the highest level in grappling contests and showed a bit of an improvement in his standup game against Akiyama, which makes him more dangerous. Shields is being undervalued a little at -185, but he is the superior fighter and will put on the show many expected when he joined the UFC.

UFC Betting Pick: Jake Shields

Yushin Okami (26-7) vs. Buddy Roberts (12-2) – Middleweight

Okami has been knocked out in his last two fights, but you have to take those losses with a grain of salt as one was against a motivated Anderson Silva, who lost to Okami under controversial circumstances a few years ago and there may not be anyone in the world that can beat the middleweight champion when he is motivated. The other was against Tim Boetsch, who has proven to be a legitimate contender at 185 pounds, so that loss isn’t as bad as was previous thought. Roberts has won six consecutive, all by different methods, although his last three wins were via decision and only one was in the UFC, his debut against Caio Magalhaes. If Roberts is going to prove himself in this division, this is his chance and he faces a slumping opponent in Okami.

UFC Betting Pick: Buddy Roberts

Justin Lawrence (4-0) vs. Max Holloway (5-1) – Featherweight

This match between a pair of 145-pounders that don’t have much experience could end up being the “Fight of the Night” as they wanted to prove themselves in the UFC, and the two have 10 fights between them. Holloway fought at the most recent finale of “The Ultimate Fighter” and at just 20 years old, there isn’t a fighter on the roster that is younger than Holloway, who is a diverse striker, but is working to improve all aspects of his game. Lawrence was actually a participant on “The “Ultimate Fighter” and the 22-year-old recovered from his loss on the show to Michael Chiesa by taking the “Knockout of the Night” against John Cofer on the show’s finale. This has all the markings of an explosive fight and both men know what the stakes are, but the slightest of edges show go to Holloway, who is a +105 sports betting underdog.

UFC Betting Pick: Max Holloway
