Shogun, Palelei Among The Best Bets For UFC 190 Main Card

Posted by on 7/25/2015 12:34:52 AM

The UFC has searched desperately for a contender worthy of challenging UFC Women’s Bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey and with nothing to show for it to this point they are hoping that their next pick can hold her own. In fact, there is a good chance UFC President Dana White would be happy just to see Bethe Correia get out of the first round against the undefeated and undisputed best in the world. Here is a breakdown of the main card for UFC 190 including the best bets for each bout.

UFC Women’s Bantamweight Championship Bout

(11-0-0) Ronda Rousey vs. Bethe Correia (9-0-0)

It’s hard to fully appreciate just how dominant Rousey has been even when you realize the time she spent in the Octagon over her last four wins doesn’t even add up to a full five-minute round. Rousey has needed less than 1:07 to clinch each of her last four wins including the last two victories over Alexis Davis and Cat Zingano in a combined 30 seconds. Rousey’s versatility has been on full display as well as she has two knockout and two submission victories over that span and now she will turn her attention to Correia’s perfect record. The only question heading in to this bout is whether or not Correia can hang on for a full round with every indication that Rousey will end this fight sooner rather than later as a massive favorite.

Pick: Rousey -1500

Light Heavyweight Bout

(22-10-0) Mauricio Rua vs. Antonio Rogerio Nogueira (21-6-0)

Even before we get to Rousey and Correia we will have a full list of candidates for fights that could end in early stoppages and this veteran light heavyweight bout between Shogun and Little Nog is one of them. Shogun is coming off TKO losses to Dan Henderson and Ovince Saint Preaux while Nogueira lasted just 44 seconds in his knockout loss to Antonio Silva the last time we saw him inside the Octagon. This bout could be over in a hurry and while neither fighter has impressed of late we will side with the younger Shogun to bounce back with a win in this bout.

Pick: Rua

Lightweight Bout

(15-2-0) Fernando Bruno vs. Giaico Franca Moreira (12-3-0)

The Ultimate Fighter: Brazil 4 finally wraps up with the two finals beginning with the bantamweight bout between Dileo Lopes and Reginaldo Vieira and then wraps up with Bruno and Moreira throwing down. Bruno could easily win this bout if he finds the smallest of windows but we like Moreira to finish what he started with a win.

Pick: Moreira

Bantamweight Bout

(15-2-0) Dlieo Lopes vs. Reginaldo Vieira (12-3-0)

Both of these fighters have shown their immense potential and there will be plenty of fireworks when they finally clash. Vieira is a very well-rounded fighter but we like Lopes for his speed and power and like him to win this fight via either knockout or decision.

Pick: Lopes

Heavyweight Bout

(34-9-1) Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira vs. Stefan Struve (25-7-0)

Big Nog will be the clear hometown favorite in this bout with Struve as he looks to give the Brazilian fans a show but they will more than likely be disappointed when Struve emerges victorious. It has been a rocky two years for the young heavyweight but he has really matured and should find a way to emerge victorious with a greater sense of urgency to get back in the win column in this one.

Pick: Struve

Heavyweight Bout

(18-7-1) Antonio Silva vs. Soa Palelei (22-4-0)

There is certainly plenty of punching power in the light heavyweight bout but what about Silva and Palelei standing in the center of the Octagon and throwing bombs at one another? Silva hasn’t been able to secure a win over the course of his last four fights and while he has had to deal with some pretty elite competition including Cain Velasquez over that span his loss to Frank Mir has us convinced he is nearing the end of the line. Palelei has a lot to prove in this bout and with so much punching power it won’t be a surprise when he knocks out Silva and sends a message to the rest of the UFC heavyweight division.

Pick: Palelei

Women’s Strawweight Bout

(19-4-0) Jessica Aguilar vs. Claudia Gadelha (12-1-0)

The women’s division will get a major push if Aguilar and Gadelha can give the fans at least a couple of rounds and considering neither one of them is nearly as dominant of a finisher as Rousey we could see a longer fight to begin the main card. Gadelha is trying to bounce back from her first-career loss and we will take the native-Brazilian to do exactly that with a win over Aguilar.

Pick: Gadelha
