Breaking Down The Best Bets For The UFC 192 Main Card

Posted by on 9/18/2015 9:56:19 PM

The UFC will make its return to Houston, Texas with a bang as the UFC 192: Cormier vs. Gustafsson card is absolutely loaded from top to bottom including a main event fight between UFC Light Heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier and Alexander Gustafsson with the title on the line. Here is a look at the best bets on the board on the main card for the UFC 192 event.

UFC Light Heavyweight Championship Bout

(16-1-0) Daniel Cormier vs. Alexander Gustafsson (16-3-0)

A loss to Anthony Johnson prevented Gustafsson from getting another shot at the UFC Light Heavyweight title but after shaking off the idea of retirement he has worked hard to get back inside the Octagon and compete at the absolute highest level and that has to be a scary prospect for the rest of the light heavyweight division. Gustafsson looked almost unbeatable before losing to the former champion Jon Jones and while he followed that up with a loss to Johnson he definitely has the talent to hold his own against Cormier. The champion went the distance against Jones in a unanimous decision loss but rebounded with a submission win over Johnson for the title that caught some experts off guard. Cormier has proven he deserves to be called the champion but now it’s Gustafsson’s chance to do the same and for as difficult as the last couple of years have been for him it would all pay off when he finds a way to win this fight and become champion.

Pick: Gustafsson

Light Heavyweight Bout

(19-3-1) Rashad Evans vs. Ryan Bader (19-4-0)

Evans is coming off some big wins over Dan Henderson and Chael Sonnen but he didn’t exactly dominate in either one of them and if he had lost those matches his professional career would likely be over. Instead he has earned a shot at Bader, who has strung together four straight wins since his loss to Glover Teixeira at UFC Fight Night back in September and seems poised for a title shot. Bader should overwhelm Evans and move one step closer to a title opportunity with a win.

Pick: Bader

Welterweight Bout

(17-3-0) Johny Hendricks vs. Tyron Woodley (15-3-0)

Hendricks has been pretty inconsistent over his last four fights in which he has alternated wins and losses but there is no denying he is in line for a rematch for the UFC Welterweight title after losing it to Robbie Lawler via split decision. The fact that a championship belt changed hands on a split decision has to be tough to deal with but Hendricks will have the opportunity to prove his merit when he takes on Woodley and earn a chance to get the belt back. Woodley is coming off back-to-back wins but that mini run will come to an end when he steps inside the Octagon with Hendricks.

Pick: Hendricks

Heavyweight Bout

(18-6-0) Shawn Jordan vs. Ruslan Magomedov (13-1-0)

Magomedov has posted eight straight wins overall including back-to-back victories in the UFC but he will be in tough against a very dangerous striker in this fight. Jordan is coming off three straight knockout wins and while he might not be the most well-rounded fighter he has incredible power and only needs the smallest of windows to capitalize. Magomedov might try to make this a boring fight as he chases another decision but he will be in tough and it won’t be a surprise if this fight ends with Jordan raising his arms following another knockout win.

Pick: Jordan

Women’s Bantamweight Bout

(6-2-0) Julianna Pena vs. Jessica Eye (11-3-0)

Pena is coming off consecutive wins over Jessica Racoczy and Milana Dudieva and will be looking to make it three in a row with a chance to take another step forward in this fight against the veteran Eye. Eye won 10 of her first 11 fights before entering the UFC but she has lost two of three with a no contest in four fights in MMA’s top promotion and looks destined for another loss when she clashes with one of the rising stars in the UFC women’s bantamweight division in Pena.

Pick: Pena
