Jedrzejczyk, Siver The Best Bets On The Board For UFC Fight Night 69 Event

Posted by on 6/17/2015 11:56:58 PM

The Ultimate Fighting Championships will make its highly anticipated return to Germany this Saturday and unlike any of its past visits this time there will be a UFC title belt on the line as UFC Women’s Strawweight champion Joanna Jedrzejczyk will defend her title in the main event against Jessica Penne. It’s only fitting that a fight card headlined by the champion of the promotion’s newest division is absolutely loaded with relatively new talent as 17 of the 24 fighters that will compete on Saturday have made two or fewer UFC appearances. With so many new faces it only makes sense that you check in with our primer. Here is a look at the best bets on the board for the UFC Fight Night 69 main card.

Women’s Strawweight Title Fight

(9-0-0) Joanna Jedrzejczyk vs. Jessica Penne (12-2-0)

In addition to this being the first title defense that takes place in Germany this will also be the first title defense ever on a UFC Fight Pass program as the first Polish-born champion in UFC history defends her title. Jedrzejczyk has talked about introducing Penne to the “Polish Power” and while the latter has certainly earned this opportunity the bottom line is that Jedrzejczyk is just the ninth fighter in UFC history to win a championship belt with an undefeated record stands out. Jedrzejczyk has absolutely dominated while securing nine straight wins and while Penne represents a worthy opponent she will be in tough just to push this fight the distance.

Pick: Jedrzejczyk -650

Featherweight Bout

(22-10-0) Dennis Siver vs. Tatsuya Kawajiri (33-8-2)

Siver’s drop to the welterweight division has yielded some inconsistent results as he has posted a 3-2 record with one no-contest. Siver’s +1.58 strike differential rate is the fourth-highest in division history but he has to be more careful defensively as eight of his 10 career losses have come via stoppage including five in the first round. The 37-year-old Kawajiri is the oldest fighter on this card and while he is 5-1 as a welterweight this will be his toughest bout so far and as long as Siver isn’t reckless he should be able to secure the win either by stoppage or decision.

Pick: Siver -200

Welterweight Bout

(14-4-1) Peter Sobotta vs. Steve Kennedy (22-6-0)

Sobotta earned his first-career UFC win at UFC Fight Night 41 after going winless in his first three attempts during his previous stint in the top MMA promotion and it’s clear that he is a very different fighter than he was when he first broke in. Now he gets the opportunity to extend his undefeated run in a very favorable matchup after Steve Kennedy stood in for Sergio Moraes on short notice due to injury. Kennedy has suffered all six of his career losses via first round stoppage and that looks like a very real possibility again in this matchup.

Pick: Sobotta -260

Lightweight Bout

(11-2-0) Nick Hein vs. Lukasz Sajewski (13-0-0)

Hein will be the hometown favorite as a native of Elsforf, Germany and while Sajewski is undefeated heading in to this bout he is still the underdog in this tilt for a reason. Hein is the more complete fighter and he should be able to get the German crowd on their feet with a big win in the first fight of the main card.

Pick: Hein -180
