McGregor, Siver Set To Clash With No. 1 Contender Status For Featherweight Championship On The Line

Posted by Jack “The Hammer” Howard on 1/15/2015 9:16:43 PM

The UFC returns this coming Sunday night with the UFC Fight Night: McGregor vs. Siver card that will undoubtedly play second fiddle to the New England Patriots in the city of Boston. However, mixed martial arts fans will take the time to tune in from around the world as an absolutely stacked card headlined by a featherweight bout between Conor McGregor and Dennis Siver. Here is a quick look at the main card for this week’s UFC Fight Night event.

Featherweight Bout

(16-2-0) Conor McGregor vs. Dennis Siver (22-9-1)

The Dublin, Ireland-native McGregor has been assured that a win over Siver would earn him the No. 1 contender status for the UFC Featherweight title and considering his recent dominance not only in the UFC but in MMA around the world there is no doubt he deserves the opportunity. McGregor has won 12 straight fights dating back to 2010 including all four of his UFC bouts with three of them earning either Performance of the Night or Knockout of the Night honors. Siver is not a terrible opponent but at 36-years old he can’t be expected to take down the younger and more dangerous McGregor who is listed as a massive favorite for this bout.

Pick: Conor McGregor -1200

Lightweight Bout

(26-6-1) Donald Cerrone vs. Benson Henderson (21-4-0)

The American Cowboy Cerrone gets his shot at the former UFC Lightweight champion after being called on to replace Eddie Alvarez and they probably could have picked a better fighter to fill in. These two have met twice before in the WEC with Henderson coming out on top in both occasions and at this point it’s fair to say he has his number. Henderson is coming off a first round knockout loss to Rafael dos Anjos and will have to work his way back to the top if he wants another shot at the champ Anthony Pettis and it will be interesting to see how long Cerrone holds on after stringing together six straight wins over the past two years.

Pick: Benson Henderson -140

Middleweight Bout

(10-4-0) Uriah Hall vs. Ron Stallings (12-6-0)

The 30-year old Jamaican kickboxer Hall has redeemed himself with back-to-back wins over Chris Leben and Thiago Santos and he should have no problem adding to that run against a surprise opponent in Stallings, who took this bout on a week’s notice after Louis Taylor was forced to withdraw because of a muscle injury. Stallings recently earned some recognition with a string of three straight wins but he lost his lone appearance in Strikeforce and is heavily outmatched in what projects to be the most lopsided fight on the main card even though Hall isn’t favored by as much as McGregor is.

Pick: Uriah Hall -1000

Lightweight Bout

(20-2-1) Norman Parke vs. Gleison Tibau (30-10-0)

Parke was originally supposed to take on Jorge Misvidal on Sunday but the latter pulled out due to injury and was replaced by Tibau. However, unlike in most other cases where the injury replacement was a significant underdog, Tibau is actually favored to get the job done after a pair of decision wins. Tibau is undoubtedly the more experienced fighter and while Parke has been impressive since arriving in the UFC in 2012 he has never fought an opponent as good or as experienced as the man he will meet on Sunday night.

Pick: Gleison Tibau -140
