Johnson, Camozzi Among Best Bets For Upcoming UFC Fight Night

Posted by on 8/1/2015 12:38:06 AM

Knoxville, Tennessee’s Ovince St. Preux will be the hometown representative when the UFC makes its return to Nashville for UFC Fight Night: Teixeira vs. Saint Preux. The Knoxville Mixed Martial Arts Academy representative will compete in a light heavyweight clash against veteran Mark Teixeira in the main even of a card that airs Saturday August 8th, 2015. Saint Preux is coming off a first round knockout win over Patrick Cummins to improve to 6-1 inside the Octagon and now he will look to take the next step against the veteran Teixeira in the headline fight for a stacked card.

Light Heavyweight Bout

(18-6-0) Ovince Saint Preux vs. Glover Teixeira (22-4-0)

Following a decision loss to Ryan Bader in his first UFC defeat, Saint Preux bounced back in style with consecutive first-round knockout wins over Cummins and Mauricio “Shogun” Rua to re-establish himself in the UFC light heavyweight division. The 32-year-old has won seven of his last eight bouts overall and will have an opportunity to prove he belongs with the best when he takes on Teixeira. The veteran Teixeira is coming off consecutive losses to Jon Jones and Phil Davis and while those were two pretty good opponents that he lost to he is getting up there in time served. The fact that both of these fighters has the potential to end this tilt at a moments notice makes it that much more intriguing but we like Saint Preux to play it safe and bide his time in an effort to wear down Teixeira before he goes for the kill.

Pick: Saint Preux

Lightweight Bout

(16-8-0) Michael Johnson vs. Beneil Dariush (11-1-0)

Johnson is on the cusp of breaking through in the UFC lightweight division and he gets a favorable matchup versus Dariush to exhibit his dominance in this fight. Johnson has already strung together four consecutive victories including wins over Melvin Guillard and Edson Barboza and he should have the edge in this tilt. Dariush has looked impressive since making his UFC debut but he is about to take a major step up in competition level for this fight and he might not be ready for it.

Pick: Johnson

Middleweight Bout

(26-6-0) Sam Alvey vs. Derek Brunson (13-3-0)

The main event bout will feature some incredible knockout potential and while the same can be said for Johnson and Dariush to an extent this is probably the bout most likely to end via knockout. Brunson knocked out Ed Herman in just 36 seconds and is slated to take on a fighter in Alvey who is coming off three straight knockout wins of his own so you can expect some fireworks when these two step in to the Octagon together. Both fighters can end this bout with a single punch and while Brunson has looked very dangerous we will take Alvey to finish this bout via knockout before the final round.

Pick: Alvey

Heavyweight Bout

(12-2-0) Jared Rosholt vs. Timothy Johnson (9-1-0)

Continuing the trend of fights that have plenty of potential for knockouts this tilt between Rosholt and Johnson should be an absolute slugfest. Johnson is coming off a pair of TKO wins while Rosholt is coming off one of his own over Josh Copeland but is also very well rounded. Rosholt might have a slight edge in experience in this fight but we will take Johnson to continue his dominance and win this matchup.

Pick: Johnson

Middleweight Bout

(21-10-0) Chris Camozzi vs. Tom Watson (17-8-0)

Camozzi is in the perfect position to bounce back from his loss to Ronaldo Souze when he takes on Watson in the opening fight of the main card for this UFC Fight Night event. Watson has lost three of his last four fights and the former Pride champion should have no problem adding to his misery with a big win here.

Pick: Camozzi
