Copa America Group C Betting – Uruguay Should Hold Off Chile For Group Win

When it comes to sports betting for the Copa America, Group C is what would be called “The Group of Death” as Chile and Uruguay should make it through, but they’ll have to hold off a young Mexican team with nothing to lose.

Why Bet On Chile (+1000)

La Roja is a four-time bridesmaid at the Copa America, but they’ve never won. At least Chile has gotten to the quarterfinals in three of the last four tournaments, and they’re coming off a trip to the round of 16 at the World Cup in South Africa. The strike duo of Humberto Suazo and Alexis Sanchez will be the key to their fortunes, and manager Claudio Borghi will be looking to get them as many chances as possible. Midfielder Matias Fernandez has scored three times since the turn of the year for his country and at 25, he could raise his profile with a huge tournament. Pablo Contreras is the leader of a defense that has a fair amount of experience, and they’ll need all of it in this tournament. Also, many feel that Claudio Bravo is one of the most underrated keepers in the world.

There isn’t much depth on the back line, so if someone gets hurt, the Chileans could be in trouble. Also, some are calling for 18-year-old starlet Diego Rubio to get more playing time, but with Suazo and Sanchez up front, there won’t be many chances for him. Still, that’s a good problem for Borghi to have. If he could transfer some of his depth throughout the team to the defense, Chile would be a problem.

Why Bet On Mexico (+2500)

The Mexicans are coming off a big win in the Gold Cup, but their soccer betting odds aren’t as good because manager Jose Manuel de la Torre has decided to rest most of his regulars, instead giving opportunities to a few youngsters. The main player for El Tri will be midfielder Giovani dos Santos, who scored the goal that sealed the Gold Cup win and was splendid overall in the tournament. Defender Paul Aguilar is the only other player in the squad that is in double figures for national-team appearances, but this could free the team up as they really have nothing to lose. They have a decent record in this tournament as Mexico is usually invited to the Copa America, and they have a pair of runner-up finishes and three third-place results in seven editions.

You don’t know what to expect from the Mexicans in this tournament as a lot of their players are inexperienced and still playing in Mexico, which isn’t an awful league, but it’s not the best. The Mexicans also had a few players suspended in the Gold Cup for using a banned substance, and at least two of the players probably would have played in the Copa America. They’ll need massive tournaments from dos Santos and his younger brother Jonathan, who plays for the Barcelona “B” team, in order to get out of the first round.

Why Bet On Peru (+10000)

The Peruvians are two-time winners of the Copa America, coming out on top in 1939 and 1975, and they’ve made it to the quarterfinals in each of the last four editions of this tournament. Manager Sergio Markanian was brought on after La Rojiblanca finished last in qualifying for the World Cup, and he quickly showed that he wasn’t going to be walked on as he suspended Reimond Manco, Jefferson Farfan and John Galliquio for going to a nightclub before a game (which they lost), and discipline will play a big role in Peru’s hopes for this tournament. Striker Paolo Guerrero will be thrust into the spotlight as the main goal threat, while defender and captain Juan Manuel Vargas leads the team from the back, although he can play in a number of other positions if necessary.

However, Peru will be missing their top best offensive players as Farfan is injured, and Claudio Pizzaro is also hurt. Even Vargas is banged up a little bit, although he is still planning to play, but how effective will he be? Farfan is the main concern here as the tricky winger had a brilliant season with Schalke 04, and now Markanian has to figure out where the creativitiy is going to come from.

Why Bet On Uruguay (+1000)

If any team has a chance to defeat Argentina or Brazil, it’s probably Uruguay, who is coming off a fourth-place showing at the World Cup, and striker Diego Forlan won the Golden Boot as the best player in South Africa. Sebastian Abreu can still do a job, but Edinson Cavani is coming for a spot after scoring five goals in his last nine games for his country. The player to watch, however, will be Luis Suarez, who will be remembered for his blatant handball at the World Cup, but he was exceptional for Liverpool in the second half of the season. Captain Diego Lugano leads the defense in front of keeper Fernando Muslera, who should be the first-choice keeper for the Churruas for years to come.

Uruguay is loaded up front, but the midfield is thin on attacking players. Sebastian Eguren is experienced enough to play an attacking role, but he’s normally a deeper-lying midfielder, so someone has to step up. Their midfield is the big reason that Uruguay won’t win the Copa America, but it’s good enough to win Group C in your online betting book.
