Champions League Betting – Second-Leg Picks For The Quarterfinals

champions league betting

Online betting players watched an exciting first round of games in the quarterfinals, and the second legs should be just as thrilling as the losing teams from the first leg have to go all-out on the attack, including the defending champions from Italy. Here is a look at the second legs in the final eight of the Champions League.

Chelsea Man United Betting – Tuesday, April 12th, 2:45 PM ET

United has the advantage after a tough 1-0 win at Stamford Bridge in the first leg on a Wayne Rooney goal, while Chelsea should feel aggrieved because of a late penalty they didn’t receive. However, the Blues won 2-1 at Old Trafford last year in the Premier League, so it is possible. One thing Chelsea needs is for Fernando Torres to start firing, and that doesn’t even mean scoring goals. Torres just needs to start playing well, which would create space for others, and it was surprising when Didier Drogba came off after 70 minutes and not Torres. Still, we have to give the edge to United and their strikers, as Rooney is finally starting to come around with seven goals in his last eight games.

Betting Edge: Man United

Barca Shakhtar Donetsk Betting – Tuesday, April 12th, 2:45 PM ET

Andres Iniesta scored after two minutes, and Barca were off and running in the Nou Camp, racing out to a 3-0 lead. But the most impressive part of the match was after Yaroslav Rakitskiy pulled a goal back in the 59th minute, as Seydou Keita responded a minute later and Xavi sealed the deal in the 86th minute for a 5-1 romp. Shakhtar last hosted Barca in 2008, and the visitors pulled out a 2-1 win, and while some will point to a 3-2 shock win for Shakhtar at the Nou Camp two months later, that Barca team isn’t the same, even though they may have the same players. This Barca team is now cutthroat, and most of them have been buoyed by their World Cup-winning experience with Spain last summer. Lionel Messi also wasn’t the same player he is now, as he is the best in the world. Shakhtar has to come out and attack, and that’s going to be their downfall. These will likely be the most lopsided soccer betting odds of the four remaining ties.

Betting Edge: Barcelona

Inter Milan Schalke 04 Betting – Wednesday, April 13th, 2:45 PM ET

In the shocker of the week, Schalke continued their confusing season with a 5-2 romp in Milan over the defending champions. No one saw this coming because Schalke has been awful in the German Bundesliga, and even though they’ve done well to get to this point, anyone who tells you they predicted this is a bald-faced liar. You could possibly look to a hangover from the Milan derby as Inter got routed 3-0 by AC Milan on the weekend, but there’s no excuse for their performance on Wednesday. There is still hope as Inter won 3-2 at Bayern Munich in the second leg of their tie to sneak into the quarterfinals, but five away goals is a lot to overcome for the champions, and Schalke has allowed just two goals at home in the Champions League. Schalke should be the soccer betting favorites in the second leg, and while we think Inter could end up winning the match, they won’t score enough to make up the difference from the first leg and Schalke will progress.

Betting Edge: Inter Milan

Real Madrid Tottenham Betting – Wednesday, 2:45 PM ET

Tottenham were also going to have a tough time going into the Bernabeu, but losing Peter Crouch to two yellow cards after 15 minutes didn’t help and Real ran wild for a 4-0 destructions in Madrid. After Crouch was lost, Spurs were just trying to avoid a thrashing, but losing Aaron Lennon just before kickoff because of an illness didn’t help matters because that left Gareth Bale as their lone option for an outlet, and we’re still not sure if he is fully fit. We know that Tottenham is going to open things up and they’re never afraid to attack, but we’re not sure that is the best option against Real, who have the speed and quality to counter and in Cristiano Ronaldo (formerly of Manchester United), Ricardo Carvalho (Chelsea), Xabi Alonso (Liverpool) and Emmanuel Adebayor, (rival Arsenal), Real has players who have been to White Hart Lane and used to the hostile welcome they’re going to receive, not to mention ex-Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho. It’s been a good run for Spurs, but now they need to focus on catching Chelsea for fourth place in the Premiership so they can go back to the Champions League next year, so go with Real Madrid in your sports betting picks.
