MLS Soccer Betting – Galaxy Go Back-To-Back In Major League Soccer

Online betting players who follow Major League Soccer know that the reputation of the league is getting better every year as teams are improving their setups and academies, and they’re luring better players to the United States. In what should be an entertaining season, look for last year’s champions from Los Angeles to win MLS Cup No.3.

The Favorites

The defending champion Los Angeles Galaxy (+185) was always going to be at the top of the list coming back into this season with names like David Beckham, London Donovan and Robbie Keane, but the onus may be on a back four that has looked suspect in the early part of the season. Losing Omar Gonzalez was a huge blow to the side. We know the Galaxy can attack, but they have to defend in order to raise their fourth MLS Cup.

Seattle (+500) lost goalkeeper Kasey Keller to retirement, and they’ll be hoping that Michael Gspurning can slot in seamlessly between the sticks for the Sounders, who fell to Real Salt Lake in last year’s Western Conference semifinals. David Estrada has gotten off to a hot start to begin the 2012 campaign, but the Sounders will need goals from other sources as well.

Real Salt Lake (+700) made it all the way to the Western Conference finals before falling to the Galaxy, but they could take a step back in 2012 as a few key players were traded away and they have a slew of young players coming through the system. RSL may not be a smart choice for soccer betting players this season, but they won’t be terrible and will be back on the way up sooner than you probably think.

The Second Tier

The New York Red Bulls (+1200) will get a look with Theirry Henry, who returned to former English club Arsenal and had a dream loan spell with the Gunners, and the Red Bulls will hope that he can bring that form over to the United States; he has looked sharp in the opening stages of the season. But the Red Bulls have a pair of young keepers in Ryan Meara and Jeremy Vuolo, and they’re going to be the keys to New York’s soccer betting chances this season.

Colorado (+1200) took a tumble last season, falling from the level of defending MLS champion to fifth in the West, although they did get to the East semis before losing to Sporting Kansas City. They have a new coach in Oscar Pareja, who didn’t make many changes, but it could take the players some time to get used to their manager’s ways. Like many teams in Major League Soccer, the back line needs to be shored up.

Watch out for Houston (+1200), who lost to the Galaxy in the Cup final and their big story this season is the return of Brian Ching, who is a year older after being exiled to Montreal, but he brings finishing to the table for the Dynamo (they hope, anyway). But if they’re going to reach the same heights as last season, Houston has to improve away from home; nine draws is nice and
picking up a point is always good, but a couple more wins would boost the team’s confidence.

The Longshots

Chicago (25/1) finished the 2011 campaign strong enough that they could be considered a darkhorse bet to win it all after missing the playoffs, and their player to watch is midfielder Rafael Robayo, who goes from box to box effortlessly and with boatloads of energy. He’ll be the link between offense and defense this season for the Fire.

D.C. United (33/1) picked up Dwayne De Rosario last year and almost managed to make the playoffs after an awful start to the season, and with a new contract, the striker should be excited and raring to go. He’ll have some help up front with Hamdi Salihi, United’s Designated Player signing, and they also brought in Robbie Russell from Real Salt Lake to bolster the defense.

De Rosario’s former (and hometown) club, Toronto FC (40/1) has yet to make the playoffs in its existence, and their mission to do it this year took an early hit with the injury to Torsten Frings. But Adrian Cann is back from a knee injury that caused him to miss nearly a year and Joao Plata is one of the most exciting players in the league.

How It Will Play Out

It’s tough to see past any team but the Galaxy in the MLS, just because they have a trio of players in Beckham, Keane and Donovan who can make something out of nothing at any time. In a dream final against Henry and the Red Bulls, bet on the Galaxy in your sports betting book.
